Stephen has his Masters in Education in Sports Management and most recently worked as the Sport and Teen Director for the Melrose YMCA. After interviewing two finalists last week, the Board of Health selected Amy von Hone as the new Health Director pending successful contract negotiations and background check, both of which are currently underway. Drummer Boy Park Playground Earlier this spring, the Town engaged Playground Inspections of New England to complete a comprehensive audit of the equipment and site at Drummer Boy Park. The audit identified a number of pressing safety concerns, all of which were addressed by the DPW within less than a week after receiving the report, the most impactful of which was the removal of the swings. Since then, we have held a couple internal meetings to determine next steps (both short- and long-term). Last week, we ordered the new swings that will comply with current fall zone standards. Bigger picture, we recognize that this playground is only one in Town that is not located on school property and, accordingly, serves as an important community resource. With this in mind and given the findings in the audit report, we need to assess the extent to which we should upgrade some of the existing equipment and perhaps undertake a larger effort to deal with drainage issues on site. Dog Park With bids coming in well above the Town’s estimates for this project this past spring, the Dog Park Development Committee and Town staff have been reviewing options over the past few months. Based on those conversations, we plan to go back out to bid this October leaving the scope of work largely intact but structuring the solicitation as a line-item (versus lump-sum) bid. The Town will be resubmitting an application seeking the same $50,300 in funding from the Community Preservation Act for Special Town Meeting this fall and is then planning to move forward with site work next spring. Office of: Select Board Town Administrator Mobil Station The closed Mobil Station on Route 6A adjacent to Town Hall was officially taken out of service last July. At that time, all product in the fuel tanks was removed, in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) standards. The tanks are being monitored by an independent third party, with annual inspection reports submitted to DEP. The owners of the station, Global Montello, have until July 2023 to take action on the tanks.
