HomeMy Public PortalAbout1995-04-18 Induction Meeting7 COUNCIL MINUTES INDUCTION MEETING APRIL 18. 1995 The Induction Meeting of the Bal Harbour Village Council was held on Tuesday. April 18, 1995 in the council Chamber at the Bal Harbour Village Hall. The meeting was called to order at 9:35 a.m. by Mayor Spiegel. The roll was called and those present were: Mayor Estelle Spiegel Assistant Mayor Matthew B. Blank Councilman James E. Boggess Councilman Andrew R. Hirschl Councilman Sol M. Taplin Also present: Alfred J. Treppeda. Interim Village Manager/Police Chief Jeanette Horton, Village Clerk Richard J. Weiss, Village Attorney As a quorum was determined to be present, the meeting commenced. 2. Resolution: A Resolution was read, by title. by the Village Clerk certifying the Village Council Election. A motion was offered by Councilman Hirschl and seconded by Councilman Taplin to approve this Resolution. The motion carried with the vote as follows: Mayor Spiegel aye: Assistant Mayor Blank aye: Councilman Boggess aye: Councilman Hirschl aye: Councilman Taplin aye: thus becoming RESOLUTION NO. 510 RESOLUTION OF BAL HARBOUR VILLAGE CERTIFYING VILLAGE COUNCIL ELECTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. 3. Oath of Office: The Village Clerk administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected officials. James E. Boggess - District 4. Estelle Spiegel - District 2. 4. Appointment of Temporary Meeting Chairperson: It was agreed by all present that Village Attorney Richard Weiss would serve as Temporary Meeting Chairperson. 5. Election of Mayor: Mr. Weiss called for nominations for Mayor. Councilman Taplin nominated Councilwoman Spiegel to serve as Mayor. There being no other nominations. a motion was offered by Councilman Boggess and seconded by Councilman Blank that Councilwoman Spiegel serve as Mayor. The motion carried unanimously (5-0). At this time Mr. Weiss passed the gravel to Mayor Spiegel. 8 Mr. Treppeda presented Mayor Spiegel with a plaque on behalf of her fellow Council members, as a token of their appreciation of her service as Mayor for the past two years. 6. Election of Assistant Mayor: Mayor Spiegel nominated Councilman Blank to serve as Assistant Mayor. There being no other nominations, a motion was offered by Councilman Taplin and seconded by Councilman Hirschl that Councilman Blank serve as Assistant Mayor. The motion carried unanimously (5-0). 7. Oath of Office - Mayor and Assistant Mayor: The Village Clerk administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Spiegel and Assistant Mayor Blank. 8. Selection of Regular Meeting Date: A motion was offered by Councilman Boggess and seconded by councilman Hirschl that the Council meeting date remain the third Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. The motion carried unanimously (5-0). Mr. Weiss stated this meeting is normally scheduled for the second Monday after the election. It was decided to change the meeting to today in recognition of the funeral of the Village Manager. 9. Adiourn: There being no further business to come before the Council. motion was offered by Councilman Boggess and seconded by Assistant Mayor Blank to adjourn.
