HomeMy Public PortalAbout2011.135 (06-07-11) RESOLUTION NO. 2011.135 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD FINDING THAT A PUBLIC PURPOSE WOULD BE SERVED BY APPROVING A FINANCIAL SUBSIDY FROM THE CITY COUNCIL'S BUDGET FOR YA ES HORA'S CITIZENSHIP WORKSHOP COPY MACHINE RENTAL WHEREAS, City Council of the City of Lynwood would like to promote community, charitable and similar activities in Lynwood that yield an appropriate public purpose; and WHEREAS, on July 9, 2011, Ya Es Hora is hosting a citizenship workshop at Firebaugh High School Auditorium and Gymnasium. The workshop will be providing free assistance with naturalization application N-400 and the office of Citizenship and Immigration Services will provide information regarding the citizenship process; and WHEREAS, Ya es Hora is an historic non-partisan Latino civic participation campaign launched as the Latino community's action-oriented follow-up to the immigrant mobilizations of 2006. The multi-layered campaign takes a comprehensive approach that links naturalization to voter participation and Census enumeration. The campaign assists eligible legal permanent residents to get on path toward U.S Citizenship; and WHEREAS, the financial subsidy will provide a benefit to the community by providing guidance and counseling services to residents in the Lynwood area. NOW, THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE, ORDER AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council finds that the offer of financial subsidy benefits the community. Section 2. The City Council approves a nominal subsidy to Ya es Hora in conjunction with Assembly Member Ricardo Lara's Office for the rental of 3 copy machines to use at the Citizenship Workshop on July 9, 2011. Section 3. The City Council approves that the expenditure be deducted from Council Council's budget and adhere to the City of Lynwood's Municipal Code Section 6-3.7 regarding purchasing and bidding procedures. Section 4. The City Clerk shall certify the passage and adoption of this resolution.
