Discussion and vote on recommendation to Community Preservation Committee regarding Friends or Relatives with Autism & Related Disabilities (FORWARD) application for $ 75 , 000 in funding to provide affordable and support homes for 8 adults with autism . The President of FORWARD , Kathy Ohman was present with her husband and co -founder John Ohman and Managing Director David Kaplan to explain their organization and funding request. Their organization has been raising money to create housing for adults with autism and other related disabilities on Cape Cod . The housing will be staffed group homes run by CapeAbilities . The Town of Dennis gifted the FORWARD organization with 5 acres of land on which to build and they have been raising money (including getting funds from various Cape CPC ' s) to fund the building of the homes . Once the homes are built the Department of Developmental Services and CapeAbilities will be charged with choosing the residents for the homes . As this is a regional project the future residents will come from any of the 15 towns on the Cape, as well as Nantucket and Martha ' s Vineyard, meaning there could potentially be residents from Brewster but there is also the possibility that none will be from Brewster. But all residents will be adults with developmental disabilities coming from various towns on Cape Cod and the Islands . 1 Community Preservation Committee - Housing Minutes : August 8, 2019 After five years, the groundbreaking will finally be starting early next week as they start building two four-bedroom homes which will be one level for accessibility .
