Dear Oracal Representative,
On September 1,2013,the City of Savannah was notified that it is to receive a grant from the Department of
Homeland Security,from its Port Security Grant Program for FY 2013. The grant was awarded for the purchase of
an 'All Hazards' Marine Response Vessel.
This vessel will be equipped to respond to shipboard emergencies&firefighting;as well as Chemical,Biological,
Radiological,Nuclear,and high yield Explosive(CBRNE)incidents.The grant award totals$1.2M;the full cost of
the vessel is$1.6M. Thus,we need to raise the$400K difference, which is essentially the grant match portion of the
award.We are very fortunate that the Georgia Ports Authority(GPA)has already committed$125K towards this
match.
We are asking you,as partners in our community,to please step up and contribute to helping us raise the needed
funds to cover the grant match. The City of Savannah will absorb the cost of staffing and operating this vessel.The
Port of Savannah is the economic engine that drives not only our local economy,and our state,but also reaches to
ever expanding areas of the southeast and the nation as a whole. It is vital that we keep this port as safe as possible,
so that it can remain open and functioning at full capacity.

secure this vessel.
