Mayor Dodson appointed Mr. William LaPorte to work in conjunction
with Mr. Gwynn in preparing the budget for the 1964 -1965 fiscal year.
There was a discussion of the Town amending its' Charter to provide
the Police Department with hot pursuit powers for speeders passing
through the Town. The possibility of increasing insurance costs and
additional dangers to the policemen were mentioned. The Commission
concluded that stopping speeders outside the Town Limits and written
warnings were adequate means of deterring speeders.
The Commission authorized Mr. Gwynn to obtain at least three bids,
one from outside the Delray area for,the Townts insurance coverage
which comes up for renewal October 1, 1964.
Mr. Iglehart discussed several plans under consideration by the
South Lake Worth Inlet Commission that would change the operation of
the Boynton Inlet. He felt any changes could possibly affect the
beaches to the south of the inlet and felt it was the duty of the
Commission to keep informed on any proposed changes. It was moved,
seconded and passed unanimously that the Town write a letter to the
Inlet Commission asking that the Town Commission be kept informed
and granted a hearing before any changes are undertaken. Copies of
this letter to be sent to the Town of Ocean Ridge, Highland Beach,
Delray Beach and Briney Breezes.
Mr. Koch reported that the water committee was lo6king at several
locations west of the Intracoastal as possible water supply sources
and that some valuable engineerin.- data could possibly be obtained
from the City of Delray Beach, as they had had water tests made of
the area several years ago.
There being no further business to come
meeting was adjourned.
