The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Bette Espeseth at 7:30
p.m.. i
The Invocation was given by Commissioner Eloise Evans and the Pledge of
Allegiance was led by Commissioner George Martini.

A motion was made and seconded approving the minutes of the regular
meeting of February 23, 1988 as mailed, by a motion by Commissioner
Julio Mendoza and a second.by Commissioner George Martini with all in
agreement. , ;

CORRESPONDENCE: Harold Mattoon �read a letter from the Chamber of I
Commerce requesting waiver of fees for the use of Bateman Hall for a
Luncheon Meeting on April 19, 1988�regarding the Century Freeway. �

CURRENT PROGRAM REPORT: by Ralph Davis

The Lynwood Boys Al1 Star Basketball teams entered the S.E.M.M.A. �
Tournament and came away with 3rd'place for 13 & 14 year olds, 2nd place -
for 12 year olds and lst place for 8, 9& 10 year olds. This week end I
they will compete in the S.C.M.A.F. Tournament in San Diego. Boys �
Baseball registration is being taken, as well as sign ups for T-Hall.
Picture day for Boys Basketball;was March Sth, with picture day for I
Girls Basketball and Drill Team scheduled for Saturday, March 26th. The
Drill Team was entered in an Easter Parade on March 19th in the City of �
Bell. Cheese distribution will be handled March 23rd starting at 9 a.m. �
at the Community Center. The Lynwood High School Girls Basketball team �

Finals. j

CURRENT PROJECT REPORT: by Harolfd Mattoon
Harold Mattoon distributed copies of the Monthly Report of Projects &
Activities conducted by Recreation &' Parks. A short discussion followed
regarding items on the list. i
The Natatorium Filter System was done in house by Jim Coles, Aquatic
Director and he is to.be commended for a job we11 done. The Senior
Advisbry Board is meeting every Friday and is doing a fine job.
ANTI GRAFFITI PROGRAM AND REPORT; i by Ralph Davis
A report was distributed by Ralph Davis to the Commission with a listing
of the crew handling the Graffiti Shape Up Program. A brief summary of
what work was performed in February was outlined ( 8 residences, 2
businesses, with a total of 2956 square footage covered).
Pic�ires were displayed indicatingjBefore and After of graffiti removal
on the Freedom Memorial in City Park and Lindbergh Park. The crew had a
chance to sandblast and spray painti these two sites.
A map was displayed with pins inserted to indicate different completed
work (residence, business or public).
I
There was some delay to the program due to the requirement of permission
to enter letters that had to be obiained before actual removal could be
accomplished.
Various topics regarding graffiti iemoval were raised and discussed.
#13 TOUR OF NATATORILTI AND NEW FIiTER INSTALLATION was delayed to end
of ineetinq.

Commissioner Julio Mendoza - inquired about the island on Atlantic
between Century and Beechwood. ,
Commissioner George Martini - clommented the graffiti program should I
continue to be promoted in the newspapers advising the public with a
brief description of the availability and phone number contact.
Commissioner Eloise Evans advisedjthe report on the graffiti program was
very informative. She also mentioned she saw the filming of the City of
Lynwood on T.V. and felt Parks &�Recreation Department should have been
represented and shown: i I

outside the Sheriff's Department and City Hall.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m. until the next regular meeting
scheduled for Tuesday, April 26, I1988 in the Council Chambers at City
Hail, 11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood.

1. Installed 60 -4 foot auto curbistoppers along City Park parking lot
near Hosler Junior High School.

2. Installed B.B.�. grills in City Park.
3. Seeded and covered soccer field behind Natatoriutr,.
4. Installed new irrigation system on Long Beach Boulevard mediar.s at
State Street. i
5. Repaired 11 quick couplers and repaired 1" main water line in City
Park. �

6. The 8, 9 and 10 year oldjBoys Basketball Team played in the
Southern California Municipal Athletic Association Tournament and
emerged Consolation Champions. �
7. Easter Drop In Day Camp was held March 28 - April 2. Participants
were involved in Arts & Crafts, Creative Play Movements, Excursions,
Tournament Games, etc.. i

8. Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by Lynwood Exchange Club was held April 2
with several hundred participants attending.
9. Replaced two time clock controllers for security lights at Bateman

Hall. I

10. Repaired public address system in Room #2•

11. Girls Basketball season concluded.
12. School visitation now being hleld to promote Girls Softball Program.
13. Natatorium roof was repairedito seal leaks. i
14. Replaced handrails in lobby area of Natatorium. �
15. Replaced 120 broken windows throughout Natatorium. I

17. Water inlets at Natatorium wire repaired and covers installed. �
