HomeMy Public PortalAbout05/11/1963Commission Meeting Held May 11, 1963
Present: Mayor Curtis H. Dodson
Commissioner J. Phil Hoyle
" William S. LaPorte
Also attending: Mrs. Kathleen Kirton, Messrs Lilienthal, Koch
and Gwynn.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Dodson
The minutes of the meeting held April 13, 1963 was read,
approved and adopted. The Financial & Water Report for April, 1963
was read and approved. All expenditures included in this report
were approved.
A letter from the Fla. Civil Defense Association was read to the
Commission. The Town Clerk was instructed to check with the
Palm Beach County Civil Defense Director to see if membership
in this organization was worthwhile.
A letter announcing the meeting of Palm Beach County Muncipalities
to discuss plans for the County to be represented at the Worlds
Fair was read to the Commission.
A request from the City of Boca Raton urging the Town to adopt
a resolution requesting the various state and federal governmental
agencies to acquire a tract of land in Boca Raton known as
Sabel Point be purchased for a public park. It was the feeling
of the Commission that the price of the land was too high and
that public money could better be spent where land prices were
not so high.
The police and offense reports were read and approved.
Resolution #526 granting a variance to C. P. Young so that a
tract of land on County Road could be sub - divided into two lots
of 80t frontage each was read approved and adopted.
The Commission discussed the charges to be made to the City of
Boynton Beach for water used during the recent emergency. It
was agreed to charge them for 4,004,000 gallons, this being
the difference between the master meter readings for the
month of April and the total water sold to each customer in
Gulf Stream. The Commission did not feel they could charge
Boynton at a different rate than what we sell water to residents
of Gulf Stream namely 20¢ per thousand gallons. However they
did agree to allow a 5¢ per thousand gallon discount as the
Towns' contribution to the cost of tieing the two systems
together. The Town Clerk was instructed to incorporate these
facts into a letter and statement to the City of Boynton Beach.
The Commission authorized an additional $280.00 be spent to
complete certain paving of Palm Way which had been omitted
from the original proposal from Hardrives, Inc.
Commission Meeting Held May 11, 1963 cont. Page 2.
The Commission authorized purchase of a new 1963 chevrolet
police car at a price of $$2,065.00 as proposed by Adams
Chevrolet Company.
The Commission awarded a contract to the Asplundh Tree Expert
Company to top all the Australian pine trees on the east side
of Alk and north of the Gulf Stream Golf Club building at
a price of 01,73$.50.
The Commission authorized a pay raise of $18.00 per month to
Patrolman James Brown. This is in keeping with the pay scale
plan now in effect by the City of Delray Beach for patrolmen.
The Commission authorized payment of ;$150.00 to Mr. Lilienthal
for legal services in 1958, thru 1963 in connection with the
lawsuit against the Town of Gulf Stream by C. P. Young.
There was a discussion of the engineering work proposed by
Russell and Axon Consulting Engineers in regard to a study of
our Water System and feasibility study of a sewer system for
the Town. Further action was tabled until revised contracts
are receivedirom them and all the Commissioners are present to
discuss these matters.
Mayor Dodson appointed Mr. LaPorte to assist the Dep. Town
Clerk in preparing the budget for the coming fiscal year.
There being no further business to come bef re the Commission
