Watertown Historical Commission Preservation Awards Program
AWARD CATEGORIES AND DESCRIPTIONS
There are seven award categories which any individual, organization or project may be
considered. Any individual, organization or project may be considered for more than one
award provided a duplicate nomination form is submitted.
1) The Richard E. Mastrangelo Memorial Award is given to any individual elected or
employed by the Town of Watertown who has actively been a champion in
supporting the preservation of a Historical Resource.
2) The Citizenship Award is given to any individual who has taken a leadership role in
the effort to educate the community-at-large about local historical preservation issues
or concerns.
3) The Community Spirit Award is given to any individual who has taken a leadership
role in the advancement of appreciation for Watertown's unique cultural make up.
4) The Service to Youth Award is given to any individual, group or project directed at
the children of Watertown which fosters the study of subjects of local historical
interest or encourages the participation of children in subjects of historical
preservation.
5) The Architectural Preservation Award is given to any individual, group or project
associated with the betterment of any building within Watertown that exhibits the use
of architectural restoration standards or methods.
6) The Environmental Preservation Award is given to an individual, group, or project
associated with the betterment of any property within Watertown which exercises
techniques that restore the property of active community or private uses and or
displays a beautification to any property which had previously fallen into disrepair or
neglect.
7) The Historical Resources Preservation Award is given to any individual, group or
project which supports the efforts of preserving historical resources and provides
accessibility to them to the entire community.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES
Deadline:
All completed nomination forms must be received at the Watertown Historical
Commission Office, Town of Watertown, Administration Building, 149 Main Street,
Watertown, MA 02472 no later than April 9, 2015.
Eligibility:
• Any individual, organization, or project involved in Historical Preservation is eligible
for nomination for a Preservation Award from the Watertown Historical Commission.
• Nominations must be for preservation efforts made by individuals, organizations, or
projects which are ongoing or have been completed within the past two years.
• Nominations maybe submitted by the nominees for their own projects.
• Nominations will also be accepted from individuals who wish to recognize the efforts
of community members without the signature of the nominee.
• Nominees shall receive notification by mail of their nomination once the processing
of the nomination package is complete.
• Applications for nominations, which do not receive a preservation award, may be re-
submitted only if there is new and/or additional information, which was not included
in the first nomination application.
• Nominations can be entered in more than one category. A completed nomination
package is required for each category of nomination. Nominations which refer to
multiple categories on one nomination form will not be considered.
• Nominations must meet the requirements of at least one of the seven categories
outlined in the nomination package.
• Nominees who are selected to receive Preservation Awards will be notified of their
selection. The Preservation Award announcements and presentations will take place
at special Award Ceremony by the Historic Commission. The recipients will be
notified of the exact time and location of the awards ceremony as part of the
notification process for the Preservation Award.
• Any nomination packages that are incomplete may not be considered for award.
• Historical Commission members and their families are not eligible for nomination.
• All material, which is submitted as a part of a nomination package, becomes the
property of the Watertown Historical Commission. If the applicant so desires they
may submit a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of their nomination
materials. Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate these requests. The
Watertown Historical Commission does not guarantee all the submitted material will
be returned and cannot be held responsible for any material which is submitted.
