RESCHEDULED MEETING OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION
MONDAY, DECEMBER 8 2003
The regular meeting of the Public Safety Commission for the City of Lynwood,
California was held on Monday, December 8, 2003 at 6:15 p.m. at the Council
Chambers of Lynwood City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood, California. The
agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.
CALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chairperson Kenneth West called the meeting to order at 6:20 p.m. Steve
Stewart, Staff Liaison, took roll call. Chairperson Esparza and Commissioner
Calderon were absent.

Led by Commissioner Jimenez.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Led by Commissioner Hawkins.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
It was moved by Commissioner Jones and seconded by Commissioner Jimenez to
approve the minutes of the November 10, 2003 regular meeting with a noted
correction. All in favor Motion carried. The following correction was noted under
Public Orals: the address should be 3100 block of Oakwood between State Street
and Peach.
PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATION
Ms. Mary Hicks, Lynwood resident approach the commission and expressed her
concern. She asked if the City offers any kind of emergency preparedness to the
community? Steve Stewart responded and explained the City's areas of concern
during emergencies are: the continuance of government, protection of residents,
and recovery of businesses. Ms. Hicks recommended that the City contact the
City of La Canada because they have a very good program that involves the
residents in case of an emergency.
STUDIES AND REPORTS
Steve Stewart, City Liaison introduced and thanked Ms. Stephanie Milandin, from
Vector Control for accepting the invitation to come to the Public Safety
Commission Meeting.
Ms. Milandin thanked the commission for the invitation and is happy to be able to
share the valuable information that Vector Control offers to the residents of
Lynwood. She stated that that Vector Control serves 34 cities and provides a
detail presentation about the West Nile Virus that is commonly produced by
mosquitoes. She also stated that residents could call 1-877-WNV-BIRD, in case
of a dead bird is found. As well as, a website for information on repellents:
www.qlacvcd.orq or the residents can purchase tablets at Home Depot called
BTA. Those tables can help eliminate mosquitoes as well as obtaining free
mosquito fish from Vector Control to be put on water fountain. Also, another way
to eliminate mosquitoes is by reducing vegetation in the household.
COMMISSIONER ORALS
Commissioner Alatorre requested an update on the security officers and the party
car that is designated to patrol the City. 'He then wished everyone happy holidays
and a joyful new year.
Commissioner Jimenez stated that he did not get an answer or a copy of the
security officer agreement. He also stated that parents are not taking care of their
children by ensuring that they wear protective equipment when riding a bicycle.
He also indicated that street vendors are still out there in the community.
Commissioner Hawkins recommended that advertisements be placed on shooting
a gun on December 31 it is a dangerous matter.
Commissioner Jones is concerned about J& S Furniture Store — 11200 block of
Atlantic - whose merchandise is displayed on the curb.
Vice-Chairperson West thanked the City for cleaning next to the palm tree on.
Imperial Hwy by Rite Aide. He then stated that the City inform residents not to
post signs on poles when residents obtain a yard sale permit. He stated the he
would like an update on the commission safety pin and is concerned about the
community. He stated that the City should have an initiative to involve blockwatch
and commissioners to help the community by removing graffiti and trash from the
City as well as the businesses getting involved and wished everyone happy
holidays.

It was moved by Commissioner Hawkins and seconded by Commissioner Alatorre to
adjourn to the next regular meeting scheduled for January 12, 2004 at 6:15 p.m. All
� in favor. Motion carried. The meeting was adjoumed at 7:30 p.m.
