1. CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson John Beimer called the Veterans Affairs Council
meeting to order at 5:08 p.m.

City Clerk for thc March 2004 mceting.
Vl. APPROVAL OF M INUTBS: Chairperson Beimer requests a votc on thc minutes for the
P'ebruary mecting. Board Mcmber Julio Mendoza motions that the minutes be approvcd.
Vice Chairperson Jones scconds the motion. All members vote unanimously for approval
of thc Pebruary minutes.

announced the following upcoming special evcnts; contact the Sports Office for times
and locations:

• 4/3 — Baseball Opening Day
• 4/4, 4/1 l, 4/ I 8— Basketball Tournament in Gym
• 4/ 10 — Annual Easter Egg Flunt
• 4/10 — Lynwood Dodger Night Youth Baseball Fundraiser -$6.00
• 4/24 — Lynwood High School Track Meet
• 5/22 — First Annual Lynwood Sports Fest
• 5/26 — Tentative date for Memorial Day Ceremony featuring video of "U.S.O.
Salute to Bob Hope" performance from November 2003.
VIII. SCHEDULED MA7"TERS: Update on Veterans Memorial & Outdoor Perfonnance
Arena — Mr. Rodriguez discussed an upcoming meeting concerning the future Veterans
Memoria] Monument. The date and timc are to be announced. The concept is for a
monument to honor each branch of the military aud an adjoining sta�e area for spccial
events.

commc��ted that no particular base has been scheduled for closurc.
Mendoza —[nquires about the location of the Veterans Memorial Monument to be built
in the futurc.

Jimenez — Discusscd thc possible closure of the Los Angeles County Air Force Base. He
encouraged the Board Members to get involved and assist govcrnmcntal leadcrs in
Sacramento in keeping the Air Base open and active. The American Legion and VFW
should be able to providc support in this area, as wcll as requesting support from
Congresswoman Linda Sanchez and Congresswoman Maxinc Waters.

as a Vctcr�ns Memoria] Monument.
Rodriguez — Mayor Byrd has received a letter regarding thc possible closure of �hc Los
Angelcs County Air Force Base. The Mayor and Lynwood City Co�mcil is preparing a
� resolutioi� requesting that this Air Base bc kept opcn.
