CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson John E3eimer called the Veterans Affairs Council meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. II. INVOCATION: Board Member Charles Wood gave thc Invocation. III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Board Mcinber Louis Ford led the Plcdge of Allegiance. N. APPROVAL OF MiNUCES: Chairperson Beimer requests a vote on the minutes for the January meeting. Board Member Julio Mendoza motions that the minutes be approved. � Board Mcmber Wood scconds the motion. All mcmbers vote unxnimously for approval � , of the January minutes. I Vll. ]NFORMATION [TEMS: None � Vlll. SCHEDULED MATTERS: � A. VETERANS MEMORIAL & OUTDOOR PERFORMANCE ARENA —A kick-off planning meeting was held at Baleman Hall in the VIP room on 1/29/04 at 2:00 p.m. Leo Rodriguez, Yadi Farhadi, and Jim Given met with the rendering artist to discuss I ideas for many of the features to be included in the Senior Center such as; seating, , storage, PA system, stage and snack bar. Three or four possible designs will be drawn up for review by the Veterans Affairs CounciL There may also be some input from Lynwood residents via community meetings. Board Member Mendoza asks if this is necessary. Mr. Rodriguez stated that residents want to be involved in spending � their tax doll2rs. Board Member Mendoza contends that too much input will cause �� arguments. Chairperson Beimer comine��ts on the location of thc Senior Center, that ' it will possibly be built where the annex currcntly stands. � Chairperson Beimer inquired as to whether there would be an event to commemorate Me�norial Day. ; Mr. Rodriguez stated that hc has talked with Ms. Elizabeth Dixon, Recrcation Superintendent, II regarding a possible Memorial Day canmemorative event. The � event might include lunch for City Council while viewing the DVD/video of the 2003 , Veterans Day USO Salutc to Bob Hopc. The date for this tentative event is 5/26/04. i I I ,.., IX. PUBLIC ORALS: None X. BOARD MEMBER ORALS: Jones — Appreciatcs everyone coming to the Veterans Affairs Council mectings. He � reccntly took his wife who is recuperating from surgery to Arirona for their 52 wedding anniversary. He tries his best to keep up with City evcnts. Perez — Absent Wood — Rcported that thcrc are 40 baseball tcams practicing in Lynwood City Park. They are working in a really tight spacc. Board Member Wood made the following announcements: There will be baseball clinics on 2/27 at Lynwood High School and on � 2/28 in Lymvood City P�rk. Sottball/Baseball opening day on 4/3 at 10:00 a.m. in Lynwood City Park. L.A. Dodgcrs vs Colorado Rockics on 4/] 0— tickets are $6.00 each — transportation on your own — no buses. Mendoza — Would prefer that a bus be available for the Dodger game. Commented on the crowded parking lot and long lines at the Chuck E. Checse's located� within Plaza Mexico in Lynwood. This would be a good sponsor for baseball. Chairperson Bcimer also announced Mayor Byrd's upcoming State of � the City Address Luncheon on 3/2/04 at Bateman Hall. Tickets are $12.00 each. This is . � also Election Day. � i Rodriguez — Announced that thcre will be a carnival in honor of [31ack History montl� at �� the CTC from 2/23 through 2/23. Do not park in the CTC p�rking lot for this reason. ' The senior citizens program travcled to Viej�s Casino on 2/20. Easter activities are upcoming.
