CITY OF LYNWOOD VETERANS AFFAIRS COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES FOR OCTOBER 25, 2004 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson John Beimer called the Veterans Aft��irs Council - meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. IL INVOCATION: Board Member Charles Wood gave the Invocation. 11I. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chairperson �Beimer led the Pledgc of Allegiance. IV. AGENDA POSTING: Chairperson Beimer confirmed that the agenda was posted by the City Clerk for the October 2004 meeting. V1. AAPROVAL OF MINUTES: Chairperson Beimer requests a vote on the minutes for thc September meeting. Board Member Wood motioned to approve ihe minutes. Board Member Mendoza seconded the motion. All me�nbers vote unanimously for approval of the September minutes and thc motion is passed. Vll.: INFORMATION ITEMS: A, None VIII. SCHEDULED MATTERS: Vetcrans Day Planning— Mr. Rodriguez stated that the program should be vcry brief this year due to a very limited budget and the fact that it is also Election Day and people want to get out and vote. At 5 p.m. on 1 I/2/04 the Lynwood City Council will read a Veterans Day proclamation. Mr. Rodriguez will provide a copy of the DVD recorded at last year's USO Salute ro Bob Hope performed at Lynwood High School on Veterans Day. The Board Meinbers will present Council with the DVD. Council will be available for photos. Mr. Rodriguez states that he has a very small number of copies of the DVD and if anyone gives their copy away they will not reccive a replacement copy. Mr. Rodriguez is contacting personnel from all branches of the military and inviting them to come to the Council meeting for thc Veterans Day Ceremony, espeeially those servicemen and women that have recendy served in Iraq and aze now back in the U.S. VIIL SCHGDULED MATTERS: Continued Not on A��enda: There was general discussion on the Veterans Memorial Monument. They all agreed to come up with ideas for the blank walls. The walls are approximately 40-50 fect in length and 10 feet high; so whatever goes on them must be simple yet significant, in good taste and not roo cluttered. They are to bring their suggestions to the next meeting wl�ich will be hcld on I I/22. The November meeting will be the last Veterans Affairs Council meeting held this year. Some of the suggestions mentioned are a collage, a historic timeline, a tree of life listing names of servicemen and women, emblems representing all of the branches of the military. Mr. Rodriguer st�ted that his son is trying to record the lyrics 1nd words for "taps" for their use. IX. PUBLIC ORALS: None X. BOARD MEMBER ORALS: • Jones — No comment • Wood — No comment • Ford —No conunent • Ficlds — Absent • Perez — Absent � • Mendoza — Attention to the Veterans Memorial Monument seems to be fading away. • Reed — Absent � • Williams — Absent • Beimer—Commented that Board Member Wood is the only one that can still fit into his military unifonn. Hc �vill bc the only member wearing a unifonn at the Veterans Day Ceremony at the I I/2/04 Council meeting. Everyone else will be wearing street clothes. Chairperson Beimer also requested that the members bring back ideas for the Veterans Memorial Monument Wall. Xl. ADJOURNMENT—THE NEXT REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 5:00 P.M.
