Whitaker Parking Control Manager � � VII i COMMISSIONER ORALS , Vil � � ADJOURNMENT Next meeting: September 12, 2005 ; , i � � � ClTY OF LYNWOOD REGULAR MEETING OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MONDAY, JULY 11, 2005 The regular meeting of the Public Safety Commission for the City of Lynwood, Califomia was held on Monday, July 11, 2005 at 6:15 p.m. at 11330 Bullis Road, .. Lynwood, California. The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act. CALL TO ORDER The Chairperson and the Vice-Chairperson were absent therefore, Steve Stewart, Staff Liaison designated Commissioner Rayas as Acting Chairperson. Acting Chairperson Rayas called the meeting to order at 6:22 p.m. Steve Stewart, Staff Liaison, took roll call. Commissioner Hawkins, Chairperson Jones were absent. Vice-Chairperson Hutcherson arrived late 6:27 pm. INVOCATION Led by Commissioner Calderon. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by Commissioner Calderon. APPROVA� OF MINU7ES It was moved by Commissioner Alatorre and seconded by Acting Chairperson Rayas to approve the minutes of the June 13, 2005 and Ma y 9, 2005 with the I noted correction. Ail in favor Motion carried. The following correction was noted under Studies and Reports: Commissioner Calderon requested that the phrase about making the suggestion about motel rate increases should be deleted. i ' PUBLIC ORA! COMMUNICATIONS None ; STUDIES AND REPORTS ` ; Commissioner Alatorre requested a copy of the new Parking Enforcement � Ordinance where it states that residents must obtain a parking permit to park in the neighborhood. Mr. Stewart will obtain such ordinance and distribute at the next ' meeting. ; , � i , , A brief discussion took place on the process of the petition for the parking permits. It was suggested that a colored coded or number survey/questionnaire form should have been a good source to hear what the residents would like see. Vice-Chairperson Hutcherson suggested that the recommendation be given to Council to mail out a survey to the residents before implementing the new parking permit ordinance. . Commissioner Alatorre and Commissioner Rayas agreed with Vice-Chairperson Hutcherson. COMMISSIONER ORALS Commissioner Alatorre shared with the commission his experience during the public hearing that was sponsored by Ms. Linda Sanchez on June 9� in which he " was invited by Assemblyman Alatorre to be a member-of the panelist. The commission is interested in hearing what are other Cities strategies when it comes to public safety and wouid like to extend an invitation to surrounding cities, such as Paramount and South Gate. The commission expressed a concem about a white van that is sealing drugs at a family restaurant, Bobos on the comer of Imperial Hwy and California. Commissioner Cornelious stated that during the 4� of July celebration he did not hear as many illega! frreworks as previous years. He also noted that with the increasing of the additional officers, cars are being pulled over for violations. Another important concern that Commissioner Cornelious brought up is the water towers within the City. He noted that the water towers are rusted from the outside so how good is the quality of the water from the inside. Vice-Chairperson Hutcherson stated that in her neighborhood the fireworks celebration started a week prior and continued after the 4� of July. Commissioner Calderon is concerned about the office space for the Senior Center staff. He distributed a copy of his concern to the commissioners. Once again, ; Commissioner Calderon stated that he would like fireworks banned from the City. � It is a major concern as fireworks can cause serious damages. ; A brief discussion took place on the new Senior Center that is being built: � Commissioner Calderon is concerned about the recycle dirt that is being used. � ADJOURNMENT � i It was moved Commissioner Alatorre and seconded by Commissioner Rayas to ! adjourn to the next regular meeting scheduled for August 8, 2005 at 6:15 p.m. All ; in favor.
