Old Business:
Building Fund Update
• Perry informed the board that former member Ms. Ann Fields sent a
donation of $25.00 for the Senior Building fund and a$25.00 donation to
the Ms. Senior Lynwood pageant.
. Vice President Reed stated a deposit of $1 1,42 I.00 was made and a
donation of $1,000 was given after the pageant. The new balance should be
around $19,000. Vice President Reed said she would have the correct
balance at the next meeting.

• Member Kiltz requested that a model of the new Senior Center be put in the
' senior founge.
• President Culp suggested that a model be put in the lobby of the recreation
building and that they'remove the model of tlie veteran's stadium because
every one thinks it's the senior building.
, • Ms. Bradley also agreed that there should be a model placed in the lobby of
the recreation building. She said she apoke to Yaddi and he said he would .
like to have a meeting with the seniors to give an update on the Senior
Center. Yadi-would bring a picture of the Senior Center to the meeting.
• Vice President Reed said that the ground breaking for the Senior Center
would take place in April. T6ere are different stages to building the center
and that's why it is taking so long. In one phase the water and gas lines have
. to. be changed. These stages will take up to 5 months. We are now in the
designing stage.
• Phyllis said she would set up a meeting with Yadi for the seniors and the date
for the ground breaking, so theseniors can.be involved.
' New�Business: .
` Laughlin Trip
• President Culp asked who was handling the Laughlin trip.
` • Phyllis told President Culp that per her request; staff took the liberty to
schedule a trip through Fiesta Tours. It is a one-stop trip to Laughlin with an
overnight stay at the Colorado Bell Hotel and Casino. The price is $25.00
' for double occupancy and $35.00 for single. The price also indudes 1 free
buffet. Phyllis suggested that they play bingo on the bus and for peop{e to
pay for the trip at the front counter.
�� • President Culp said she wanted to sell the tickeu because some people have
a problem with the front counter. One dollar will be collected from each
person to give as a tip for the bus driver. President Culp stated that the
money from the trip would go [o the Senior Building fund.
• Vice President Reed suggested that gifts be donated for Bingo winners.
• Guest in the audience volunteered to bring gifu for prizes.
• Perry said the city woidd provide refreshments.for the trip.
Christmas Activities
• President Culp asked for suggestion as to what organization they would
donate to this year. Last year they gave caps, scarves and socks to Alta
Med.
• Member Herron suggested Health View Terrance's Alzheimers department.
Member Herron also said that AARP would be donating to Peace and Joy
this year so we don't want to give to them.
• Meinber Reed suggested Community Gonvalescent, Marlinda and Royal
Oaks Convalescent.
• President Culp said that November 15, 2004 will be the day that members .
from the board will go out to visit the different convalescent homes in the
community to decide which one they will donate to this year. President Culp
stated that she would like someone that speaks Spanish to go with her. She
asked if there was anyone who would like to volunteer to go with her.
• Phyllis volunteered her staff to go and interpret for President Culp.
.` Vice President Reed said the Christmas committee will decide what
organization the Advisory Board will give donations to but the board will go
to visit the convalescent hospitals as a group.

. Vice President Reed passed out the Goals for 2004-2005.
. President Culp read the following goals:
1.) Align with Mission Statement
2.) Establish non - profit status
3.) Encourage staff to seek granu for seniors
4.) Establish committees to focus on senior issues
5.) Identify senior budget
� b.) Utilize knowledge of Senior Legislaror
7.) Examine staff qualifications
8.) Annual Ms. Senior Lynwood Pageant
Treasurer Re por[
. Member Herron stated on September l, 2004 a$20.00 deposit was made
from member Kilt. Vice President Reed has $20.00 from member Pierce
for the building ftind, not the pageant. The account balance is $1,292.40.
. Vice President Reed said that she would like to get a report on who owes
dues.
Staff Report
• Phyllis stared that 105 Flu shots were given today and another 105 will be
given on Occober 15, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Phyllis said the
exercise class is up and running with 25 people in the dass. The class
suppores the mall walkers. Mr. Ilu Johnson is going to start a gentleman's
dub. The goal of the Senior Services Division is to create more dasses so
that the new Senior Center will be full. The seniors are having a Halloween
party on Thursday October 28, 2004 at 1:00 p.m.
. Member Herron stated that classes are over lapping and conflicting with
each other..The art class was moved from room I to the n�ansit side because .
there was too much traffic but the light is not adequate on the u side.
. Phyllis stated that some dasses do start at the same time but they are not in
the same room. We have done this so that people can have more choices.
. Perry said in order to get ready for the new Senior Center the Senior
, Division has to create a busy aunosphere and someone may be
inconvenienced during [he transition. Perry informed member Herron that
the art dass can move back to room I. Perry presented the American Flag
that flew over the white House to the board and told them that
Congresswoman Linda Sanchez donated die Flag to the Senior Center. Perry
said that he would put the Flag in a glass frame and hang it in the new Senior
Center. '
• Perry told the board that Phyllis received recognition from the Human
Services Association for her ouutanding service in the communiry. Phyllis
�I and the Ciry Council attended the Human Services dinner were Phyllis was
� honored and received accolades from dignitaries. Perry passed around the
I certificates and awards Phyllis received.
I • Perry informed the board that he is available through his staff and if any of
I his staff is not doing what they are supposed to do, please let him know.
� Perry said that another Spanish speaking person was added to the staff of the
Senior Division. Her name is Teresa Marti. Now there are 2 staff inembers
that can assist Phyllis with the Spanish-speaking seniors. Teresa will work on
! Tuesday and Thursday and Cecie will work on Monday and Wednesday. Ilii
� is doing the art dasses until a replacement is found for Teresa Maharaj, who
� moved to Las Vegas.

- . Perry stated that the Lynwood Adult School is going to provide computers
and computer training for the seniors. The dasses will be held at the Youth
Center starting )anuary 2005. The Adult School has started the exercise
dass and it is increasing in numbers: The lecture part of the dass is held in
- room 1 and the exercise part is done in the racquetball room.
_. Perry reminded the board to purchase their tickeu for the Masquerade Ball �
� on October 29, 2004.

• President Culp stated that the amount of the check presented to the city for
the Ms. Senior Lynwood Pageant was $ l 1,437.38. �
. Member Kiltz said the senior lunchroom should be held for lunch only, not
for classes and the radio should be turned off. If they don't, people will e
start going other places. Member Kiltz said the radio is disturbing when
playing cards. `
• Perry stated that the radio is not to be on during lunch.
' • Phyllis said that there is a sign in the lunchroom that says music goes off
when lunch arrives.
• Member Reed said the senior population is growing and they are going to
have to accept some inconvenience in order to get to the new Senior
Center.
� . Member ]ingles read a letter to the board asking for her money back for the
10 tickeu she gave to Secretary Calderon. Member ]ingles feels that
Secretary Calderon did not tell her the truth about the tickets. Secretary „
, Calderon told her slie was going to give the tickeu away. Member Jingles
said that Secretary Calderon asked her for the tickeu and told her there
- weren't any more. She told her they were all sold out when in fact the
tickets were not sold out. Secretary Calderon had some tickets that she had .
". � not sold. Member Jingles stated she would like to know why Secretary _
Calderon told her there weren't any more tickets ? And what did she do
' with the tickeu?
• Secretary Calderon stated that she asked member Jingles for the tickets but
� she did not tell her what they were for. Later she called member ]ingles to
sign a letter for the tickeu. Member Jingles interrupted Secretary Calderon
and said that's not what happened. Member Jingles and $ecretary Calderon '
argued with each other about the tickeu until President Culp adjourned the
meeting.
