Pearline Calderon � Absent: Pearl Colbert , Betry ]ingles ' Melziner Pierce � Minutes Read By: Secretary Calderon � Correction of Minutes: � • AI Kilu name is spelled with an 5 not a Z � • Treasurer Report — Vice President Reed did not receive $20.00 from member Pierce. • Vice President Reed stated that since the minutes are mailed, each member should read them at home and bring the minutes and any corrections to the next meeting. . Member Kilu and member Austin requested that only the highlights of the meeting be recorded in the minutes. � • President Culp asked ]amell to take these suggestions into consideration. ✓ iY: Treasurer Report: • President Culp stated that member Colbert has not taken her name off the advisory board account because she has been sick. • Secretary Herron reported that the Senior Advisory Board account balance is $1,332.40. There is $81.07 in the Senior Advisory account that belongs to the Senior Building Fund. She will give that money to Christina. • Member Kilu gave Secretary Herron $20.00 to go into the building fund. • Member Herron stated she has given member Kilts receipu for all money he has given. • Vice President Culp reminded the board that there are 2 different accounts one for the Advisory Board and one for the Building fund. • Perry informed the board that all money for the Building Fund goes to Christina. The report he gave member Herron is the amount that has been recorded so far. The City Treasure, Iris Pygatt opened up an account for the building fund in Aug of 2003. Any time money for the senior accoun[ is transferred from the recreation department to the finance department it will show up on the account but it might be a month behind. As of today the account balance shows $18,540.29. Christina was able to track the amount of $1,516.39, which was in another account. Monthly Dues: • President Culp asked Treasurer Herron for an update of monthly dues. • Treasurer Herron called off the amount of dues board members have paid this year: Lorene Reed $13.00 Pearline Calderon $12.00 Frank Calderon $12.00 AI Kilu $6.00 Melziner Pierce $3.00 Pearl Colberc $3.00 Verna Culp $1.00 (President Culp gave the treasurer another dollar) • Member Austin stated that the Senior Advisory Board is a volunteer committee and they do not have to pay monthly dues. Old Business• Lau�hlin Trip � • President Culp stated that 47 people have signed up for the trip. • The board voted not to provide breakfast before the trip • President Culp suggested letting the people going on the trip know that the bus will be stopping off in Barstow for lunch. • Perry informed the board that the recreation department will sponsor snacks for the trip. Christmas Activities . President Culp asked if anyone was available to go with her to visit the nursing homes in order to see which one they would donate to for Chr'istmas. No one was available. • The board was not able to agree upon which Nursing Home to donate co this year. . The board agreed not to do anything with the money in the account at the end of the year. ;,, , v. New Business: Goals For 2005 •. Vice President Reed passed out the goals for 2005. The goals are the same as stated in last month's meeting. • President Culp�suggested that the board should get a copy of the City and Senior Division,2005 calendar before doing the Senior Advisory Board Calendar. . Vice President Reed asked Perry to help the board to establish a non-profit status. She also asked each board member to pick a goal they would like to work on and bring it to the next meeting. Board Orals: Senior Housin� . Vice President Reed stated that she went to the open house for the new Senior Housing. She spoke to the owner about subsidized housing because the rent is $800.00 a month, which is too much for seniors. Transportation • Member Pierce expressed her concern for the seniors who are not able to get taxi coupons. Member Pierce stated that there is not enough Dial a Taxi coupons, we need more transportation for the seniors. This month she arrived at the CTC at 8:30 a.m. and she did not get any tickets for November. • Member Austin asked, "Why was the dial a ride taken away ?" • Perry stated that the Ciry Council discontinued the use of dial a ride and contracted with Fiesta Taxi. The dial a taxi coupons are on a first come first serve basis. The tickeu are given out based on a budget amount. Tickeu are given to handicap people and those aged 55 or older. Exceptions are made for those with special needs. . • Vice President Reed said it was the board's responsibility to make a recommendation to the council regarding Dial a Taxi. • President Culp asked Vice President Reed and member Austin to work with her in making a recommendation to City Council. Meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
