Scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. in
the City Hall Council Chamber located at 11330 Bullis Road,
LVnwood, CA 90262.
Minutes for the Re�ular Meeting of June 14, 2005
The regular meeting of the Lynwood Women's Commission of the
City of Lynwood, California was held on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at
3:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber. The agenda was duly
posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.

Administrative Items:
Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
The pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Herron.
There were no minutes.
Discussion Items:
Wendy Martinez from the YWCA stated that she will not be with the
Women's Commission as a representative of the YWCA she
introduced her replacement Jenny Castillo.
� Friend Pearline Calderon returned $20.00 to the Commission from
Ms. Reed and thanked the Commissioners for their support of the
Mrs. Senior Lynwood Pageant. The pageant has been canceled due
to lack of participation. There was discussion on this subject.
Chairperson Lewis tabled this discussion and suggested to move on
to the discussion for the July 12, 2005 Agenda.

Self Defense Class held at Bateman Hall:
Commissioner Herron commented that she enjoyed the class and
that it was a great ciass. She also stated that there should be more
programs like this in the City. Commissioner Pacheco stated that she
also enjoyed the class.
Chairperson Lewis asked Mr. Brents for suggestion, she also asked
him about Angela Davis regarding the event for October. Mr. Brents
stated that she is booked and will not accept any engagements.
Mr. Brents stated that he received a note from the City Council asking
him to look into the YWCA for seniors.
Jenny Castilio expressed her thanks to the Commissioners for
allowing her to represent the YWCA, she also asked if the
Commissioners would be interested in taking one of the safety
classes that she teaches. Jenny Castillo commented that she is
seeking advocates to assist her. The class is 40-hours, which will be
held at the Lynwood Community Transit Center in room #1. •
Mr. Brents stated that July 7, 2005 is the date for orientation. The
class is scheduled to begin on July 11 through August 31, 2005. The
time and dates are from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday and
Wednesday and Mr. Brents will have fliers made regarding the class
for publicity.
Chairperson Lewis stated that a lady called her trying to find locations
for food give-away. Commissioner Herron stated that Ms. Reed does
food give-away out of her garage, and that Ms. Reed also has food
taken to the Lynwood Senior Center for give-away to anyone that
needs it.
Commissioner Herron stated that different churches also have food
give-away; the United Methodist Church for one.
Mr. Brents stated that Pastor Henderson's Church on Atlantic Avenue
and Pasto� Hopkins of True Vine Church on Clark also give away
food on a monthly basis.
Chairperson Lewis stated that this information is good to know
because the Women's Commission is like a support group for the
homeless people. Chairperson Lewis stated that she has been trying
1 " ' for a long time to get a Hotiine in the City of Lynwood, so when the
� �' city is closed the people will have a number to call for information and
emergencies.
Wendy Castillo suggested calling the information line to get the
information that you need. Chairperson Lewis stated that there is no
hotline yet, this is what we are trying to get in Lynwood and she
stated that the information would be for everyone.
Chairperson Lewis asked if there were any other discussion.
Mr. Brents informed the Commissioner of the upcoming Juneteenth
Celebration that will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2005 from 11:00
a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be games, drill team competition,
watermelon eating contest, car show, concert and a bake-off
competition.
Commissioner Pacheco received a letter stating that the Juneteenth
Celebration will start at 2:30 p.m. Mr. Brents stated that 2:30 p.m. is
the time City Council will present the awards.
Commissioner Herron motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by
Commissioner Pacheco.
Adjournment — Motion to adjourn to the next regularly scheduled
meeting to be held at 3:00 p.m. on July 12, 2005 in the City Hall
Council Chamber, 11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood, CA 90262.
