REGULAR MEETING OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION
MONDAY, AUGUST 8, 2005
The regular meeting of the Public Safety .Commission for the City of Lynwood,
California was held on Monday, August 8, 2005 at 6:15 p.m. at 11330 Bullis
Road, Lynwood, California. The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the
Brown Act.
CALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chairperson Zelda Hutcherson called the meeting to order at 6:23 p.m.
Steve Stewart, Staff Liaison, took roll call. Chairperson Jones, Commissioner
Cornelious and Commissioner Rayas were absent.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES !
It was moved by Commissioner Alatorre and seconded by Commissioner !
Calderon to approve the minutes of the July 11, 2005 regular meeting with the ;
noted correction. Ali in favor. Motion carried. The following correction was noted �
under. Commissioner Orals: the sponsor's name is Senator Lantell and ,
Assemblyman Hector Del Atlatorre.

STUDIES AND REPORTS
Mr. Stewart welcomed and introduced Mr. J.D. Whitaker, Parking Control
Manager for the City of Lynwood to the commission. Mr. Whitaker gave a brief
orientation on the new Parking Enforcement Ordinance No 1564. ,

He also noted that a suivey is being conducted within the City to obtain the �
residents input in obtaining parking permits. The survey will be taken within each
street zone verifying that the, vehicles are correctly registered.
Once the survey is completed and 75% of the residents agreed with its contents,
then there will be a$20 initial fee, and thereafter a yearly fee of $10. Up to a
maximum of three permits per household. This will also help eliminate the
problem of cars that are non—operative and are parked on the street, which a�e
moved from one side to another only on street sweeping day.
A brief discussion took place on the process of the survey.
Mr. Stewart also acknowledged LT. Ramirez.
LT. Ramirez gave the Commissioners a hand out on City of Lynwood Crime
Statistics for their review and indicated that if the commission wishes any other
statistics to le him know and he would bring it to the,next meeting.

COMMISSIONER ORALS '
Commissioner Alatorre shared with the commission his experience during the �
National Night out, which was held on August 2n and indicated that it was a good �
turn out. He then expressed a concern with speeding vehicles on Michigan and t
, State Street. He noted that in July there was a tragedy where a speeding vehicle !
hit a resident and a fatality occurred.
Commissioner Hutcherson also shares Commissioner Alatorre's concern on '
speeding vehicles especially near schools sites. She stated that iYs safety issue +
and speeding needs to be addressed.
Commissioner Hawkins, indicated that she lives near a school site where the '
parking is terrible. She also suggested that parents be train on what to look for
when it comes to violence.

It was moved by Commissioner Alatorre and seconded by Commissioner
Calderon to adjourn to the next regular meeting scheduled for September 12,
2005 at 6:15 p.m. All in favor. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at " �
