Approval of Past Minutes — Motion to approve minutes �vas made by Chairperson �` Figueroa, second by Vice Chairperson �Romero. Minutes were approved. � ' 7. Correspondence � None � 8. Pu61ic Orals — None � 9. Scheduled Matters A. National Youth Service Day Job Fair: Chairperson Figueroa asked if anyone had comments about the job fair. � Commissioner Romero stated she received� $16.12 in concession sales. � - Com�nissioner Esparza said he expected more people to attend � � Chairperson Romero wanted to know who invited the last band. She had a •_ problem with them because they used profanity and children were around. Jose said a vendar told him that they gave money to one of the ' commissioners. Commissioners are not authorized to hold funds. All ' money must be tuned into the Recreation Department by the next business � day, and the� funds will go into a city account for the Youth � �� � � Commission. � � B. National Lea�ue of Citv Conference: � Jose informed the Commission they need to start fundraising for the trip. Hr suggested they have a fundraiser meeting in 2 weeks. Commissioner E. Jacinto asked if thc datcs for the conference conflict with the days they will bc in school. Jose said yes, any Commissioner going would have to miss a few days of school. C. Fundr�iser: Commissioncr Lewis' grandmother, Ms. Jingles, has a sponsor that wants to donate $300.00 towards candy. Jose will put rogether a fundraising package. D. Battle of the Bands � � Jose presented a draft flyer with contract and registration form for thc Battle of the Bands. This event that will take place on May 14, 2005, the same day as Family Serviee Day. Jose thought it would be a good idea for the Youth Commission to spo��sor the event and design a flyer �for it. The Youth Commission will host the event in the same area where they held � the College Fair. � � Jose suggestcd having vendors and charging the bands a$25.00 -$50.00 registration fec. Chairperson Figueroa motioned ro charge a�30.00 registration fee for the bands. The Commission voted and motion"was approved. Commissioner E. Jacinto volunteered to design a flyer. He will make a rough draft and present it to Jose some time next weck. Commissioner Lopez stated that sponsor's names should go on the flyer Jose said sponsor's logos could also go on the flyer, but only the names of the bands that have signed the contract and paid the registration fee will be on thc flyer. Commissioner K. Jacinto motioned to have rock bands only. The Commission voted and motion was approved. More ideas for Battle of the Band will be discussed at the special fundraiscr mecting on May 4, 2005. lU. Commission Orals: Commissioner E. Jacinto asked if the Youth Commission could have a fireworks stand. � Jose said no. Jose also addressed the dress code. He advised the Commissioners to dress approximately, not to wear sagging pants or clothes showing stomach area. They are to represent the city and to set a good example for the community. Meeting was adjourned until next scheduled meeting on May ] 8, 2005.
