The purpose is to clean up the alleys in the city. Lunch will be provided. Jose asked who would participate. No one responded. Jose invited the commission to participate in the Easter Egg Hunt coming up on March 26, 2005 He advised the commission to get involved and take a lead in the community. Jose passes out information regarding National Youth Service Day and went over thc goais. The goals are: •"Co mobilize youth as leaders to idcntil�� and address the needs of � their community through servicc. � • Encourage youth to create a lifelong commitmcnt of scrrice and - civic engagemcnt. ' • Educatc the public, thc media and policymakcrs ahout �hc ycar- round contributions of young people as communi�ty leaders. City Clerk Andrea Hooper joined the mceting at 5:40 p.m. d) National LeaQUe of Cities: The National League of Cities will be hosting " �� die 82 Annual Conference of Cities and Expositioa, "America and Towns Teaming Up for Tomorrow. The conference will bc held in Charlottc North Carolina on December 6-10, 2005. The City Council is expected to attend. The Youth Co�nmission will attend the Youth Leadership & Youth �Participation in Municipal Government part of the confer.ence. The cost to attend the conference is $449.00 per person. Jose told the commission it is not � required that everyone goes to the conference, but he �vould like to see at lcast � 5 people attend. � . e) Fundraiser: Jamell passed out information and samples of snacks for fundraisers. City Clerk Hooper said that the fees for the trip could be reduced if 2-3 people shared a room and took a red eye flight. She stated that she �has ;�,.n- attended the conference before and she will be going with Jose to assist with the trip. She told the commission that she went to t�he City Council herself to � get them to approve a Youth Commission; therefore she expects to sce all the � � Youth C:ommissioners at the Easter Egg Hunt, introducing their sclves to the cow�cil members and thc community. She expressed how important it is (br ' � the Youth Council to attend these events and to be actively im�i�lved ii� the � community. City Clerk }-looper ' told the Youth Commissioners that i1 they do not promote themselves, then � thcy can'f cxpect others to promote them. .1ose said that he �vnnts the National � Lcaguc ofCitics Conference to be something that the Youth Commission � �vorks to�vards evciy year. At this point it is out ofthe question to ask the City � Council to help pay for the trip. Thc Youth Commissio� must put more effort in promo�ing their sclves and try'to raise the money, before asking the city � co�mci�l for help. X.
