Agenda Posting: The agenda was duly posted fior the June 15, 2005 meeting. VI. Approval of Past Minutes: Correction on approval of past minutes. Commissioner Esparza motioned to approve, Commissioner Estrada seconded. Minutes were approved with correction. VII. Correspondcnce: None VIII. Public Orals: None IX. Scheduled Matters: a.) Junetceth Celebration • Jose told the Youth Commission that they are to participate in the Juneteeth celebratio» on Saturday June ] 8, 2005. There will be a drill tcam competition, car show, performers and watermelon eating contest The Youth Commission will work with the watermelon contest They are to recruit peoplc for the contest and to be on stage during Council presentation. • `� �. ` � Compton Youth Expo 2005 � Jose passed out flyers for the expo. Council Member Vasquez is moderating the event and she is requesting th�t the Youth Commission attend. The Expo is Saturday July 16, 2005 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Compton Community College. ' c.) Battle of thc Bands • Battle of the Bands is scheduled to take place on August 13, 2005. • A prize will be awarded to the best band. • Commissioner K. Jacinto suggested giving the winner a gift certificate for • equipment. • Commissioner Esparza said she had a connection with a guitar store. • Jose suggested giving money instead. • Commissioner E. Jacinto asked if the band will have to fill out an application. • Jose said yes. He said that he is going to make modifications to the contract because last time one of the bands me�nbers violated the contract by smoking. When Jose asked him to put the cigarette out he got an attitude. • Jose said l�c is looking for a clean rock band for July 4'�'. • Commissioner Estrada suggested Happy Jack d.) Lvnwood Youth Center _ • Jose passed out the Youth Center recreation program and went over the scheduled events. • The Youth Center will partner with otl�er cities on field trips. • The city of Montebello will join them on the paintball excursion and camping trip. ' Jose's staff is in the process of making � book of referrals for the youth, it should be rcady soon. • Jose suggested that the Commissioners read the Lymvood N Perspective to get infonnation on city events. e.) National Lea�rue of Cities • Commissioner Estrada said he is planning on atCending. � • No response from the rest of the commission. c.)
