MEETING MiNUTES FOR
AUGUST 22, 2005
I. CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson John Beimer called the Veterans Affairs
Council meeting to order at 5:07 p.m.
II. INVOCATION: Board Member Wood led the Invocation.
_ III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Chairperson Beimer led the Pledge of
Allegiance.

V. AGENDA POSTING: Chairperson Beimer affirmed that the agenda was duly �
posted by the City Clerk for the August 2005 meeting. I
VL AI'PROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes were not approved due to a lack of �
a c�uorum.
VIl. 1NFORMATION ITEMS: Mr. Art Hernandez, Recreation Coordinator handed �
out a flier advertising the annual Neighborhood Beautification Program. This
annual program recognizes Lynwood residents that take pride in their home's �
upkeep and appearance. Nominations will be accepted during the months of �
August and September. Nominations may be mailed or delivered to City hall �
and must include a photo, a paragraph of up to 100-wards describing the
home, the residence address. You must also include the nominator's name,
address and phone number. The deadline for submissions is 9/29/05. I

There was discussion between Chairperson Beimer and Mr. Hernandez on the
status of Lynwood Schools. They are in need of supplies and furniture, not to
mention teachers. The start of the school year has been postponed for one-
week to ready schools for opening.
VIII. SCHEDULED MATTERS: Mr. Hernandez informed the Veterans Affairs
Board Members that he is waiting far input from them on the Veterans Day
event. Chairperson Beimer remarked that at this rate there wouldn't be much
of an event. Mr. Hernandez stated that they may be able to incorporate the
Veterans Day Program into the Young Marines Program that IVIr. Ivlario
Gutierrez is working on. The Veterans Day Program would provide a vehicle
by which the Young Marines Program could be showcased. Mr. Gutierrez
will be holding a meeting with the Young Nlarines at 12 noon on Saturday,
8/27/05. The annual Veterans Day event will be held on the Thursday before
November 11"� so that students may have the opportunity to �ttend and also
because other cities will host their events on the actual holiday (11/11/05).
IX. PUBLIC ORALS: Mr. Grant Taylor, Director of Development Services
walked by the Council Chamber and Chairperson Beimer invited him in for
an update on replacing Ham Park; however he was unable to stop as he is
very busy working on escrows far the city's park replacement project.
Mr. Hernandez commented that he has a friend whose market on Carlin and I
Atlantic is being purchased by the City. !

regularly scheduled meeting which will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday,
September 26, 2005.
