VIII. SCHEDULED MATTERS:
• Veterans Day Event - Chairperson Beimer inquires about the status of the
annual Veterans Day Event. Mr. Hernanaez stated that Mr. Perry Brents
has assigned the Veterans Affairs Council to Nathaniel Johnson, Office
Assistant I at Bateman Hall. The Veterans Affairs Council members made
various surprised comments; overall they were not pleased with this
decision. They feel that since Mr. Hernandez has worked closely in the •
recent past with Mr. Rodriguez that he would be much better suited for the
job of conducting the Veterans Day event. Not to discredit Mr. Johnson,
they just feel that his background is mainly in administrative work and for
this reason replacing Mr. Hernandez with Mr. Johnson does not make sense.
They feel that Mr. Hernandez is well qualified for this position.
• Veterans Memorial Monument - The Board Members share their ideas for a
Memorial Monumentr
➢ Wood - Stated that they should downscale the size of the desired
memorial and put up a small display in the same general area of the
proposed larger project. The memorial dedication ceremony could
then serve as the main attraction of this year's Veterans Day event.
➢ Beimer - He stated that a plaque should be designed that includes all
military service emblems this should then be encased in cement to '
prevent theft The United States flag along with flags from all
branches of the military should Ue on display along with an
appropriate slogan. He thinks the Mayor would approve something
on this scale. ;
➢ Jones - Mentions memorial f7ame on Tweedy Blvd. in South Gate
Park. I
➢ Hernandez - Stated that he will attempt to find out the cost of the i
Cesar Chavez memorial and do a cost analysis for this project. He
will come up with a proposal on the memorial monument for the next
meeting.

BOARD MEMBER ORALS: Continued —
➢ CALDERON — Stated he was puzzled as to why the city of Lynwood doesn't.
obtain federal government grants for projects such as the Senior Center and the
Veterans Memorial Monument. He stated that city projects are started and left
incomplete because the city is too busy with Sister Cities in Mexico.
i MENDOZA - Advised everyone not to try to get a hotel room in Palm
Springs during tournament time; they are too expensive and hard to find. He
also commented that a Washington Mutual Bank is going up near the health
center.
➢ REED - No comment
➢ WILLIAMS - Absent
➢ BEIMER - Reminds everyone that there is a City Council meeting the
following evening (3/i/o5).
