HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES-CC-2003-01RESOLUTION # 01-2003 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING ALLEN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL'S DESIGNATION AS A CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITAL WHEREAS, The Balanced Budget Act of 1997 contained the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program that created a new licensing category and method of reimbursement for rural hospitals The term used for those hospitals that qualify is Critical Access Hospital (CAH) The mtent of the legislation was to promote access to care by providing additional financial resources to small rural hospitals, and by fostering regionalization (regionalization occurs when various health care providers, within an area, establish working relationships to provide health care services), and, WHEREAS, A Cntical Access Hospital (CAH) is a new designation that is eligible for Medicare cost reimbursement and may be an attractive alternative to the current hospital licensing standards, and, WHEREAS, The Balanced Budget Refinement Act (BBRA) of 1999 relaxed some of the requirements for Cntical Access Hospital hcensure The Benefits Improvement and Protection Act (BIPA) of 2000 clarified existing rules and created additional reimbursement opportunities, and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Moab Governing Body that the City of Moab supports Allen Memonal Hospital's designation as a Cntical Access Hospital PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the Governing Body of the City of Moab in open session this 14s' day of January 2003 This resolution shall take effect immediately upon presentation ATTEST dc<,_ate Uelat4� Rachel Ellison David City Recorder Mayor son
