Minutes of Brewster Cultural Council January 13 , 2020 ; F,01 , ITR p9,iilf +-40
Town Hall 4 PM
Present : Maureen Callahan , Roger Smith , Joan Swaluk , Kathy Krikorian , Joan Bernstein , JoAnn

Absent : Tonia St , Germaine , Ralph Marotti , Traci Noone
On a motion by Joan Swaluk , seconded by Maureen Callahan , the Minutes of the December 2 ,
2019 meeting were unanimously approved ,
On a motion by Joan Bernstein , seconded by Kathy Krikorian , the Treasurer' s Report was
accepted unanimously , $ 1412 , 88 remains in the account , We did get our Grant funds , but they
have not yet been posted , That amount should be reflected in the next report .
Members suggested " Goals and Priorities " items that should be discussed at the next meeting
when more members are in attendance :
1 . Determine the most effective funding mechanism to support grantees ,
2 . Revisit , analyze , and reword the Brewster Cultural Council ' s priorities , to expedite
awarding Grants next voting cycle ,
36 Consider public relations and public awareness , possibly designing a press release and
holding a reception for Grant recipients in April each year. One Council Member could
introduce Council Members , and explain the application/selection process , Some
Grantees could offer snapshots of their projects to the public in this forum , through mini
performances or brief descriptions , At the reception , the public could receive a listing of
Grant recipients and dates/ times/ locations of projects/performances , This listing could
be designed as a flyer or poster to be displayed at Town Hall , the Library , and COA as
well as an item published on the Town website .
4 . Consider asking the Town Administrator to provide funds to support the use of Constant
Contact to make the public aware of the work of the Council and to publicize Grantee
events throughout the calendar year ,
5 , Consider creating a BCC website ,
Roger Smith , in his new role as Chairman , announced that the State Report for 2019 is
complete ,
The remainder of the meeting was devoted to discussion of the Brewster Cultural Council ' s
sponsored Annual Art Show at the Brewster Ladies Library .
Dates will be April 3 -29 , As is customary , the first 28 Brewster applicants will have the
opportunity to showcase two works of original art , Drop off will be Thursday , April 2 , from 4 : 30
PM to 6 PM and curating will occur immediately afterward , Take down will be April 30 . The
Reception will be April 4 , at 3PM ,
Joan Bernstein will be responsible for production of applications , which when printed will be
available at the COA , Library and Town Hall . At the February meeting , other responsibilities
related to the Art Show will be shared among the Council members . Maureen Callahan
nominated one noted Brewster artist to be this year' s Honoree . Members will be asked to
submit other names for consideration so that at the next meeting a decision can be made .
The next meeting will be February 3 , 2020 at 4 PM , most likely at Town Hall . Roger Smith will
verify this and notify Members .
At 4 ; 55 Joan Bernstein made a motion to adjourn , seconded by Maureen Callahan , and
unanimously approved .
