HomeMy Public PortalAbout016_25_THS April 2011 minutes Tybee Island Historical Society Board Meeting April 26, 2011 Present: Kevin Sofa, Sally Cameron, Sarah Jones, Walker Beeson, Jim Kluttz, Mimi Ferrelle, Jane Graham, Cullen Chambers, Jim Anderson (1), Jim Peper (1), Jan Fox, Jim Monaghan, Don Harris (2), Jim Adams Absent: Lamar Webb (1), Bob Ciucevich (2), Paul Jackson (2) The April meeting of the Tybee Island Historical Society was called to order at 4:00 pm by Kevin Sofa, Vice President. The minutes of the March meeting were approved. Committee reports: Membership: Jane Graham presented the membership report for February and March. At the end of February there were 358 memberships, and at the end of March there were 355. Volunteers: A letter will go out tomorrow, April 27th, to all post office box holders on Tybee Island encouraging them to sign up to be volunteers at the light station. Jim Monaghan reported that he had recruited 3 new volunteers and 2 more that will probably sign up in May. The annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held on Wednesday, April 20th. The dinner was attended by between 48-50 volunteers who enjoyed a wonderful meal. The speaker was Wendy Brewer, a volunteer herself, who has written a book about lighthouses entitled Keep Your Glow On. Building Maintenance and Grounds: No report Publicity/Special Events: Mimi Ferrelle reported that there are 3 weddings booked for May and 3 for June. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Fogarty/Hosti cottage will be held at 6:00 on May 24th. There will be a book signing of Wendy Brewer’s book at the cottage on May 28th. Finance: Jan Fox reported that she has gone over the books and that our attendance counts have not included Tuesday or after hours groups. Also our alcohol sales have not been recorded correctly as some have been put with retail sales and some with events. Jan will work with Bonnie to correct this. 150th Anniversary : The events held on April 9th and 10th at the light station and at Ft. Pulaski were very well received. Kevin Sofa showed the board the schedule of events that were held at both venues. Cullen Chambers showed pictures of the interpretive panels and the reenactors at the light station. Ft. Pulaski is interested in working with Tybee Island Historical Society to keep this siege weekend an annual event. Unfinished Business: Cullen Chambers reported that the final walk through of the Fogarty/Hosti cottage with the architect will be this coming week. The first coat of paint is on the outside. The light fixtures have to be put in and the hot water hooked up. Grass has been sown around the cottage, and there is a landscaping plan for the area. Also there will be an irrigation system put in. New Business: Jim Kluttz wanted the board to be aware that Beth Hodges, who is educational director, has broken her ankle in 4 places. She is back at work as of yesterday, but not able to conduct tours. Kevin Sofa adjourned the meeting at 4:30 pm. Sally Cameron, secretary
