Committee reports: Membership: no report Volunteers: Jim Monaghan reported that 5 local churches have included information about volunteering at the light station in their bulletins for the past several weeks. Two new volunteers have signed up so far as a result. A letter will be going out to all post office box holders on Tybee. Sarah Jones commented that Saturday and Sunday are the days most often lacking volunteers. Jim Monaghan reminded all board members to ask friends to become volunteers. Building Maintenance and Grounds: no report Publicity/Special Events: Mimi Ferrelle reported that the ribbon cutting ceremony for the raised cottage will be on May 24th from 6:00 until 8:00. Also this spring there will be a book signing event to launch the book Keep Your Glow On- a book about lighthouses- which was written by one of our volunteers- Wendy Brewer. This Saturday, April 2nd, there will be a car show to benefit the “Kiss A Pig” campaign for the American Diabetes Association. The grounds were donated for this event. We have collected $1850 for event rental this month and have added more wedding events for the fall. Finance: Jim Kluttz reported that the CD at Savannah Bank was not renewed. The funds were moved to checking as they were needed for operating expenses especially for the raised cottage. Insurance will be higher than we budgeted for. We will be paying 5 to 6 thousand dollars more a year for insuring the cottage. He also reported that we were aggressive in estimating increase in admissions and retail sales. Therefore we are under budget so far although higher than last year at this time due to increase in admission prices. Lamar Webb asked that the board get a report each month on attendance numbers. 150th Anniversary: Kevin Sofa reported that since last month the 14 panels that will interpret the light station’s role in the War Between the States have been edited and are scheduled to be delivered by the end of the week. On April 9-10 we will join Ft. Pulaski in their annual siege weekend. Confederate reenactors will be at Ft. Pulaski and Union reenactors from the 48th Volunteers of New York will be here at Tybee Light Station. There will be “Preparing for Battle” talks on Saturday and Sunday and musket firings on Saturday. A press release will be sent out and Cullen Chambers has notified Tybee email blasts. Unfinished business: Cullen Chambers told the board that only some painting, installation of condensing unit for air conditioning, and installation of bathroom fixtures are left to be done on the raised cottage. It will be known as the Fogarty/Hosti cottage. The cottage will be included in the Tybee Tour of Homes on the first Saturday in June. Board members will tour the cottage after the meeting today. New business: The Coast Guard is now using a new type of light bulb in the lighthouse which is much smaller that the previously used type of bulb. This is happening at all lighthouses. Cullen Chambers commented that this is an example of how an historic site can be adapted for changes in technology. We will eventually have examples of the different bulbs in the display case in the lighthouse. Lamar Webb adjourned the meeting at 4:45pm.
