Mr. Roy Hord
Building Inspector
City of Tybee Island
Dear Mr Hord,
I'm writing to outline the plan for securing tents for the quotes we've provided for the Tybee Island
Run on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4, 2012.
Under ordinary circumstances we secure 10'x10' and 15'x15' tents with 20 gallon water barrels
(150 #'s per barrel) and 20'x20' tents with 55 gallon water barrels (400#'s per barrel). On 10'x10',
15'x15' and 20'x20' tents we would normally use two barrels per tent. On a 20'x30' tent we would
use four 55 gallon water barrels. Larger tents such as the 20'x80' tent would have two 55 gallon
barrels at each comer, four additional barrels down each side and one in the middle of each end.
This would be a total of (18) 55 gallon water barrels weighing approximately 400#'s each. The
estimated maximum wind load would be 40mph sustained and gusts to 50 mph. At that point
failure, if it were to occur, would most likely be in tearing of the canvas.
In the event that weather were forecasted in these wind ranges we would send staff to the site to
evaluate the safety and remove canvas to avoid incident. 1 would assume that in the event of
winds of this magnitude any event would be cancelled as a result of the severe weather.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
Thank you, a
Zit
