RE: Tree Stump Removal
As a follow up to Councilors' requests regarding the subject matter, attached please find
correspondences from Steve Magoon, Community Development and Planning Director
and Thomas J. Tracy, Town Auditor. As you recall, this issue was first raised at the June
1St Fiscal Year 2011 Budget Hearing and again at the September 15, 2010 Town Council
Meeting.
As further developments occur, I will keep you advised.

I am writing in response to your request to have the Tree Warden compare his listing of
stump locations with the Department of Public Works listing. Attached is a list of 117
locations which provides that comparison, although it may not reflect all of the activity that
has occurred over the last two weeks since the Department of Public Works list was
produced.

RE: Tree Stump Removal Bid
Pursuant to your request, the Purchasing Agent, Tree Warden and I have been working on
a bid document for Tree Stump Removal which will be advertised in the next Goods and
Services Bulletin. The advertisement will be printed in the October 4, 2010 Goods and
Services Bulletin published by the Secretary of State's Office. Additionally, a Legal
Notice will be published in the Community Newspaper, the Town Purchasing Agent's
Bulletin Board and on the Town's Website.
As you can see by the attached legal notice, bids are due October 19, 2010 at 11:00 AM
and work will begin immediately upon award.

LEGAL NOTICE
TOWN OF WATERTOWN
INVITATION FOR BIDS
TREE STUMP REMOVALS
Available beginning October 4, 2010 8:30 AM
Bids are requested for providing Tree Stump Removal Services for the Town of
Watertown at various locations as described in the Invitation for Bids. The estimated
number of stumps to be removed is 100 — 150. The work will begin immediately and
completed within 8 weeks from start of work.
SEALED BIDS on the original bid form in an envelope marked with bidder's name and
address, and a description of bid item(s) shall be received at the office of the Purchasing
Agent, Administration Building, 149 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472 until 11:00 a.m.,
October 19, 2010, and at that time and place be publicly opened and read aloud.
Each bid shall be accompanied with a 5% bid bond, certified check or treasurers check
made payable to the Town of Watertown.
IFB's will be available on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Purchasing Department, 149
Main Street, Watertown, Massachusetts 02472 M -F 8:30 am — 5 pm, through to
Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. You may also find the IFB on line at the
town's web site, www.watertown-ma.gov, go to document center, purchasing and locate
the Tree Stump Removal file or contact Raeleen Parsons at rnarsons{r�watertown-
ma.gov. Include your name, company name, mailing address, phone, and fax number.
The Town will award a single contract to the lowest most responsive and responsible
bidder. . Proof of insurance liability is required prior to starting any work.
The Town of Watertown reserves the right to waive any informality, to accept or reject, in
whole or in part any and all bids, or take whatever other action may be deemed to be in
the best interest of the Town. An award will not be made to a contractor who is not
equipped to undertake and complete the work as specified. The Town Manager is the
awarding authority.
