Whereas: Dominic Joseph Russo was lovingly raised along with his seven siblings: John,
Vincent J.Piccirilli,Jr.,Vice President Alfred,Mary, Paul,Ray, Margaret and Richard by their parents Joseph and Mary Russo, both
immigrants, Joseph from Italy and Mary from Ireland and they made their home in
Michael F.Dattoli, Watertown at the corner of Forest and Palfrey Streets; and,
Councilor At Large
Aaron P.Dushku, Whereas; The Russo children attended Watertown schools, were active in the community
Councilor At Large and both Dominic and Alfred worked for the Department of Public Works along with their
Father; until they were called into service for this country during World War ❑; and,
Susan G.Falkolt;
Councilor At Large Whereas; The eldest son Dominic Joseph enlisted in the Army,March 5, 1943 and
Anthony Palomba, proceeded to Fort McClennan,Anniston,Alabama, for his initial training as Combat
Councilor At Large Infantryman, deployed overseas with the 143"1 Infantry, 36t11 Division, Second Battalion; and,
Angeline B.Kounelis, Whereas: On September 12, 1944, Private Russo drove to the foot of Hill #383,two miles
District A Councilor southeast of Pusey,France,was left with the vehicle while the Commanding Officer went
Lisa J.Feltner, forward on foot to join the troops. While Private Russo awaited his return he was killed by
District B Councilor either machine gun bullets or by rifle fire from the enemy; and,
Kenneth M.Woodland, Whereas: Private Russo's mother received a letter of condolence from William T.

Armstrong, Chaplain, 143`d Infantry that reads,"In the words of the official narrative,the
only information anyone may reveal: Private Dominic J.Russo, 31301591, was the driver
for the Commanding Officer of second battalion, this regiment. Doubtless you are aware of
the success of the campaign of which Dominic was an integral part and which has brought us
so much nearer to our ultimate goal;"and,
Whereas: On December 12, 1944, The President of the United States of America,pursuant
to authority vested in him by Congress awarded the Purple Heart established by General
George Washington at Newburgh,New York,August 7, 1782 posthumously to Private
Dominic J. Russo, for military merit and for wounds received in action resulting in his death
on September 12, 1944;and,
Whereas: Private Russo is buried in Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial, Epinal,
France, along with 5,300 American Soldiers from World War II; and,
Now therefore be it resolved: that the Town Council of the City known as the Town of
Watertown hereby honors and recognizes Private Dominic Joseph Russo for his ultimate
sacrifice for this country, by naming the intersection of Forest and Palfrey Streets in his
honor"Private Dominic Joseph Russo Memorial Square."
