COMMISSION MEETING
October 10, 1969
Mayor William F. Koch, Jr.
Vice -Mayor Stewart B. Iglehart
Commissioner William S. LaPorte
Richard F. Ward, Harry Johnston, Roy Cowart, Kathleen
Kirton and Paul Price.
Mayor Koch called the meeting to order. Mr. LaPorte moved that the
minutes of the meeting held on September 12, 1969 be approved as
written and the reading of these minutes be waived. Mr. Iglehart
seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Mr. LaPorte moved that the Financial Report for September, 1969 be
approved as written and all expenses included in the report be
approved. Mr. Iglehart seconded the motion. Motion passed.
A letter from the Florida Shore & Beach Preservation Association was
read announcing their annual meeting to be held on November 5, 6 and
72 1969 at Redington Beach, Florida.
Police reports for September were read.
It was announced that Richard Schorn had been hired as a patrolman
to fill the vacancy in the Police Department and that he would begin
work on October 23, 1969.
There was a brief discussion on trash service in the Town. Kirk
Kahler has a loader and had done some work during the summer in
picking up large piles of trash. It was agreed to have him pick
up some of the large piles that are presently out in the Town.
Also he is to submit a proposal to pick up the large piles of trash
on a regular basis. It would then be possible for the Town to get
by with only one trash man and a smaller truck to pick up the small
trash piles and do other maintenance work for the Town.
There being no further business to come before the Commission,
the meeting was adjourned.

Mr. Randolph Hodges, Executive Director of the State of
Florida Department of Natural Resources, has invited the
county commissioners from each of the coastal counties
to meet with him to discuss the critical problem of beach
erosion. This meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday,
November 5, 1969, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Reding -
ton Beach, in Pinellas County. It will coincide with the
annual meeting of the Florida Shore and Beach Preserva-
tion Association, set for November 5, 6, and 7.
Since the residents of the coastal areas are especially
aware of the serious problem of beach erosion, Mr. Hodges
has asked me to extend an invitation to officials of our
coastal municipalities to attend and participate in this
meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to obtain any
suggestions or recommendations that may be helpful in pre-
paring a state wide erosion control plan and to discuss
legislation that may be proposed to the 1970 session of
the Florida Legislature.
It is hoped that you and the other officials of your com-
munity will be able to join us in these timely discussions.
By scheduling the meeting on Wednesday, November 5, we can
participate in the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation
Association activities on Thursday and Friday. A copy
of the Association program is enclosed.
For your information also enclosed are copies of three
bills that were introduced in the 1969 session of the
Legislature but failed to pass. However, it is presumed
that they will be reintroduced during the 1970 session.
Comments pertaining to the content of these bills will be
most welcome.
