Summary of Activities and Event
Code Enforcement
CEOs conducted 44 ordinance investigations and follow ups. In addition, they issued 1 Ordinance
Violation and 3 Warnings.
The Code Enforcement Unit continues to monitor the beach and walking path areas to ensure
compliance with dog related ordinances.
Code Enforcement Officers (CEOs) continue their patrols of the Bal Harbour Shops construction areas
to ensure they remain in compliance with Village noise ordinances.
CEO's conducted daily inspection checks of the gated community construction sites ensuring
compliance with Village ordinances.
Criminal Investigations
The investigation into a snatch -and -grab robbery at a beachside condominium continues. Recent
subpoenas provided enough information to develop a photo line-up. The victim failed to identify the
suspect. Further investigation revealed the suspect was under GPS supervision. GPS Data places the
suspect at his home at the time of the crime. Although the initial suspect appears to have been
eliminated, additional leads are being explored.
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) conducted a driver's license audit of all department employees.
The audit checks the status of all licenses to ensure drivers of the police fleet license are valid.
The CID continues its investigation into the alleged theft of approximately $400,000 from a retailer at the
Bal Harbour Shops. Former employees are suspected of participating in the theft. Attorneys representing
the retailer provided numerous accounting documents pertaining to the theft and the scheme used to
defraud the retailer. The victim's accounting team will meet with detectives to review the data.
Detectives are working with loss prevention personnel from several stores at the Bal Harbour Shops to
develop leads on retail theft cases. Since retail theft suspects often strike multiple locations in different
jurisdictions, detectives are also communicating with sister agencies in an effort to identify the persons
involved in the thefts.
