Town Council Meeting
Remarks — Michael J. Driscoll
Mr. President, members of the Honorable Town Council, elected members of the School
Committee, citizens and Town employees here tonight and at home; I want to offer a few
words tonight about Mrs. Hauswirth who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 3rd.
Mrs, Hauswirth worked for the Town of Watertown these past 12 years in the Town
Treasurer/Collector's office.
I have known Mrs. Hauswirth, her husband Joe and their lovely family for over 33 years,
going back to 1977 in the good old days of so many wonderful youth hockey families.
Mrs. Hauswirth was affectionally called Liz. Liz was a wonderful wife, a dear mother,
loving grandmother and sister.
Liz was also a dear friend to all of her co-workers in Town Hall. Liz always had a smile
and a kind word for everyone.
As evidence of that friendship and love, several Town Hall employees volunteered to fill-
in for Liz's co-workers last Thursday, the day of the funeral services in order that all of the
employees in the Treasurer/Collectors office could attend and pay their respects to the
Hauswirth family at the collation thereafter.
Another sign of Town employees' friendship and love toward Liz Hauswirth occurred
after the funeral service when many Town Hall employees stood on the top step outside the
entrance of Town Hall in unison and in quiet tribute to their fallen friend and co-worker as the
funeral procession came up Main Street heading to Ridgelawn Cemetery. Firefighters at the
Main Street Fire Station also stood in front of the station in quiet tribute as well.
I am really proud of the Town employees in their actions during an emotional week for
everyone as this was a fitting tribute to a wonderful woman and the Hauswirth family will be
forever grateful for the outpouring of support.
In closing, Mrs. Hauswrith, it was an honor and a privilege to have known you; and until
we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
