CITY OF MEDINA
RESOLUTION NO.2018-46
RESOLUTION DECLARING VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
WHEREAS, the city of Medina (the "City") is a statutory city and municipal corporation
under the laws of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, the term for the office of mayor in the City is two years and is elected in
even -numbered years; and
WHEREAS, Bob Mitchell was elected mayor at the general election in November, 2016
and was serving a term which extends through the first business day of January, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Bob Mitchell passed away on July 30, 2018, prior to the expiration of his
term; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes, section 412.02, subd. 2a provides that the city council
shall fill the vacancy by appointment until an election is held in accordance with law.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of the city of Medina,
Minnesota as follows:
1. A vacancy is hereby declared in the office of mayor.
2. The city council shall fill the vacancy in the office of mayor until a successor is elected in
the general election of November, 2018 and qualifies for office.
3. City staff and consultants are hereby authorized and directed to take any and all actions
necessary or convenient to fulfill the intent of this resolution.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member
Cousineau upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:
Anderson, Cousineau, Martin, Pederson
And the following voted against same:
None
Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
