HomeMy Public PortalAbout2001-04-16 Induction Meeting136 COUNCIL MINUTES INDUCTION MEETING - APRIL 16. 2001 The Induction Meeting of the Bal Harbour Village Council was held on Monday, April 16, 2001, in the Council Chambers at Bal Harbour Village Hall. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Mayor Hirsch!. Those present were: Mayor Andrew Hirschl Assistant Mayor Daniel Tantleff Councilman James E. Boggess Councilman Peg E. Gorson Councilman Seymour Roth Also present: Councilman Elect Howard Berlin Alfred J. Treppeda, Village Manager Jeanette Horton, Village Clerk Ellisa Horvath, Deputy Village Clerk David Wolpin, Village Attorney As a quorum was determined to be present, the meeting commenced. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Bal Harbour resident Pattie Van Huffel. Mayor Hirschl presented Bal Harbour resident Dr. Ira Lelchuk with a proclamation and a key to the Village for his service as the Immediate Past President of the Bal Harbour Civic Association and his contributions to the community. I. RESOLUTION: A resolution was read by title, by the Village Clerk, certifying Village Council election. A motion was offered by Assistant Mayor Tantleff and seconded by Councilman Roth to approve the resolution certifying Village Council election. The motion carried with the vote as follows: Mayor Hirschl aye; Assistant Mayor Tantleff aye; Councilman Boggess aye; Councilman Gorson aye; Councilman Roth aye. Thus becoming: RESOLUTION NO.616 RESOLUTION OF BAL HARBOUR VILLAGE, FLORIDA, CERTIFYING VILLAGE COUNCIL ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. On behalf of the Council, Assistant Mayor Tantleff presented Mayor Hirschl with a plaque and picture of the Village in appreciation of his dedicated service on the Council for 12 years (1989-2001) and as Mayor for the past 2 years (1999-2001). 4. OATH OF OFFICE - COUNCILMAN HOWARD J. BERLIN. COUNCILMAN PEG E. GORSON. AND COUNCILMAN DANIEL S. TANTLEFFS Mrs. Horton administered the oath of office to Councilman Howard J. Berlin, Councilman Peg E. Gorson, and Councilman Daniel S. Tantleff. 5. APPOINTMENT OF TEMPORARY MEETING CHAIRPERSONS Councilman Tantleff volunteered to serve as the temporary meeting Chairperson. It was Council Induction Meeting 04/16/01 1 the consensus of the Council to appoint Councilman Tantleff as temporary meeting Chairperson. 6. ELECTION OF MAYOR: A nomination was offered by Councilman Tantleff to elect Councilman Berlin as Mayor and explained that he is a leader, runs his own law firm, and has served as the President of the Civic Association. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Gorson. A motion was offered by Councilman Tantleff and seconded by Councilman Gorson to elect Councilman Berlin as Mayor. The motion carried with the vote as follows: Councilman Berlin aye; Councilman Boggess aye; Councilman Gorson aye; Councilman Roth aye; Councilman Tantleff ave. 7. ELECTION OF ASSISTANT MAYOR: A nomination was offered by Councilman Roth to elect Councilman Tantleff as Assistant Mayor since he previously served as the Assistant Mayor and did an excellent job. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Boggess. A motion was offered by Councilman Roth and seconded by Councilman Boggess to elect Councilman Tantleff as Assistant Mayor. The motion carried with the vote as follows: Mayor Berlin aye; Councilman Boggess aye; Councilman Gorson aye; Councilman Roth aye; Councilman Tantleff aye. 8. OATH OF OFFICE — MAYOR AND ASSISTANT MAYOR: Mrs. Horton administered the oath of office to Mayor Berlin and Assistant Mayor Tantleff. Assistant Mayor Tantleff turned the meeting over to Mayor Berlin to Chair. Mayor Berlin thanked the members of the Council for electing him to serve as the Mayor. 9. SELECTION OF REGULAR MEETING DATE AND TIME: It was the consensus of the Council for the regular meeting date to remain as the third Tuesday of every month at 3:00 p.m. 10. ADJOURN: There being no further business to come before the Council, a motion was offered by Assistant Mayor Tantleff and seconded by Councilman Boggess to adjourn.
