While this year continued to be challenging, there have been
so many bright and fulfilling moments along the way. We were thrilled to
be able to offer in -person activities by the end of the summer and have
enjoyed seeing so many of you come back to the Senior Center to
participate! We hope to continue adding more programs and classes in
the New Year as our space and parking allow. Please don't hesitate to call
us to just say hello or to request assistance. We are here for you!
Our December calendar is filled with exercise classes, special trips on our
Senior Shuttle Bus, a holiday grab and go event, and opportunities to
engage with each other with the groups that meet in the afternoons to
play whist, bridge, cribbage, canasta, scrabble and chess. We also hope
you'll join us for our movie afternoons, chair volleyball sessions, art class
meet -ups and more!
Happy Holidays from all us to you and yours, and know we wish you good
health and joy in the New Year.
Cheers!

The history of the harp dates back to
around 3000 BC. Modern harpists play all
types of music. They can play in a symphony
setting and be equally comfortable in a jazz or
blues club. Susan says that the soothing sounds can
transport the listener to a calmer place that draws
one to the instrument. She enjoys playing beautiful
popular music for others and hopes that her music
brings tranquility and joy to the listeners.

Zoom & In -Person at COA
Wednesday, December 8 at 10 am
We will be discussing The Mistletoe Promise, by
Richard Paul Evans. Elise Dutton dreads the arrival
of another holiday season. Recuperating from a
bitter divorce that left her alone, broken, and
distrustful, one November day she is approached
by a man from her building whom she has never
formally met. Tired of spending the holidays alone,
the man offers her a proposition. For the next eight
weeks —until the evening of December 24—he
suggests that they pretend to be a couple. He
draws up a contract with four rules: 1. No deep,
probing personal questions 2. No drama 3. No
telling anyone the truth about the relationship.
4. The contract is void on Christmas Day. Elise
surprises herself by agreeing to the idea. As the
charade progresses, the safety of her fake
relationship begins to mend her badly broken
heart. Just as she begins to find joy again, her
long -held secret threatens to unravel the
emerging relationship.

"Thinking Beyond the Money" offers a framework
that connects non -financial decisions with the life
planning process. Through an interactive seminar
supported by tools and resources attendees will
begin to think ahead about retirement in a
creative and comprehensive way. The seminar
presents a new definition of "retirement" and a
practical model for planning one's future by
identifying six key priorities in a retirement
planning pyramid: seeking purpose, keeping fit,
staying connected, finding home, finding security,
and finding balance. Join in with others from your
community to make your retirement all it can be.

In response to the growing COVID-19 pandemic
beginning last March, the Perkins Library had to
temporarily halt its mailing services. We decided to
try a pilot program called "Tele-Fun Calls", weekly
over -the -phone activities where patrons join
different programs during regularly scheduled time
blocks. Patrons call in on a special telephone
number and enter our meeting ID to be connected
into the Tele-Fun Zoom Room with other Perkins
Library patrons for a host of programs that can be
enjoyed from home — with activities scheduled for
almost every day!
There is accessible trivia every Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday -- where callers answer questions, play
Name -that -Tune, Family Feud, Spelling Bees, and
more. Patrons "buzz in" by pressing buttons on their
keypads to answer questions. Audio described films
are played during our Monday Movie Matinees, as
well as the Perkins Listening Library hour where we
play radio dramas of yesteryear and today. We host
information and training classes where patrons can
learn about various assistive technologies and
resources.
To join any of these activities, you will need to
contact Elizabeth White at 617-972-7241 or e-
mail Elizabeth.White@perkins.org to sign up.

ARE YOU A COMPUTER GURU?
The Friends of the Watertown Council on Aging
need help in creating a website and a presence on
Facebook for our non-profit organization. It would
be wonderful if some of our "friends" with comput-
er skills and "know how" would volunteer to guide
us through this technical creative process. Next
Friends' Meeting is Thursday, December 16 at 2 pm.
Please contact Mary Keenan, President,
at 617-926-5296 or mtmckeenan@aol.com. if you
qualify and are willing.
