Eleven Houses were connected to these extensions. There were added to the system during the year, thirty-two new services. New services, service repairs, pipe renewals, hydrant repairs and the Hugh Nawn Company, who were trench- ing for gas mains, kept the water department busy most of the summer. The 6" mains on Grove, Maple and Church streets must be cleaned in 1931; in fact, the whole system (old pipes) will have to be cleaned in the next few years. The water board is pleased to submit this report and wishes to take this opportunity to thank all those whose work has con- tributed to help us carry out the many responsibilities of this department for the best interests of all the citizens of Hopkinton. Respectfully submitted, EDWARD CONDON, Chairman, JOSEPH F. SULLIVAN, Clerk, L1NDSEY R. TH'OMPSON, $opkinton Water Board. 73 EXTENSION SERVICE The following is a brief report of the work of the Middle- aox County Extension Service as developed in the town of Hopkinton for the year 1930. In agriculture the principal service rendered during the year took the form of individual farm visits made upon re- quest, twenty-one of these visits being made largely on poultry and fruit work. One meeting was held in the interest of fruit growers to discuss spraying methods and a pest con- trol program. Work among the homemakers has not been carried on in au organized group as is the case with most towns, except In the Woodville section. One meeting was attended at which time a talk was given on food in relation to health. In the Woodville section a group has been organized and a series of meetings conducted on vegetable preparation and also another series on the improvment of home grounds. 25 boys and girls have been enrolled in the 4-H club work, largely in garden, poultry and food clubs. Mrs. A. Corwin and Robert Wilson served as local leaders. A town com- mittee for the promotion of 4-H club work was organized during the year composed of Robert Wilson, Robert Fox and Mrs. J. J. Carey. A campaign to eradicate rats from farm and home build- ings was carried on on a county -wide basis and a great many of the baits were distributed in Hopkinton. Many local people took part in the several county -wide meetings held during the year, such as the county picnic at 'Wayside Inn, Sudbury, and the Homemakers' Day at Lex- ington. W. E. PRATT, J. J.
