SUMMARY STATEMENT:
In a continuing effort to bring the Street Department’s equipment fleet up to date, Public Works issued Bid Number 13-07 for another large wheel loader. This loader will replace two
aging front end wheel loaders. A 1976 Cat 966 Loader and a 1980 Cat 930 Loader. Each of these loaders has seen significant increased maintenance costs and replacement parts are becoming
increasingly hard to find. In addition, they are inefficient in both operations and fuel.
Public Works issued an Invitation to Bid for a 5 Year Heavy Equipment Lease/Purchase for one loader. The Invitation to Bid included specific instructions to the bidders regarding the
requirements of the lease, the non-appropriations addendum, and the guaranteed buy-back provisions. The bid opening was on August 13, 2013. Three bids (Burks Tractor, CESCO, and Western
States Equipment) were received and were reviewed by the Public Works Director.
A complete list of bids received and a sample copy of the Invitation to Bid are attached. It is the recommendation that Bid Number PW13-07 be awarded to Western States Equipment.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Award Bid Number PW13-07 to Western States Equipment and direct staff to prepare all necessary documents for final action by the City Council.
