SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Idaho State Police Department has released the FY14 Edward G. Byrne Memorial Grant application. This funding is for law enforcement programs, and the City of McCall has been awarded
this grant funding in the past for technology improvements.
The McCall Police Department currently has heavy armor, purchased in 2005, that is rated as Level IIIA. This level does not provide protection against rifle fire or sharp or pointed
instruments. The MPD wishes to apply for grant funding to purchase Level IV rated heavy armor, which would provide adequate protection against rifles, handguns, knives and sharp instruments.
This equipment would help protect officers’ safety and allow them to perform their duty more effectively when responding to situations such as active shooters. A quote for the purchase
of the equipment is attached. The MPD has identified $2500 in the FY14 budget to apply as matching funds for this grant application.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Approve the submission of a 2014 Edward G. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant application for the purchase of heavy armor for the McCall Police Department and authorize the Mayor
to sign all necessary documents.
