SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The McCall City Council received an email on July 5, 2015 from Solveig Sinclar, a 12 year old, Valley County 4-H member. She is interested participating in 4-H with a market animal,
a steer. She was hoping there would be a waiver for 4-H members to keep market animals in city limits. Her home is located in the City limits on Conifer Lane in the R4 (4 units/acre)
- Low Density Residential zone.
According to the current City Code, MCC 3.3.02 does not allow for the keeping of large or common farm animals within the R4 zone and there is not a “waiver” opportunity. In order to
allow large or common farm animals, this would require a code amendment. Depending on the subdivision, there may be CCRs which also have restrictions against farm animals.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Deny the waiver and provide direction to staff on farm animals in residential zones.
