HomeMy Public PortalAbout2002-04 - POSTING OF PROPERTY ADDRESSESORDINANCE 2002 -4 AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE POSTING OF PROPERTY ADDRESSES WITHIN THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE, PUTNAM COUNTY, INDIANA WHEREAS, for public safety purposes, it is necessary for all residents of the City of Greencastle to clearly post their property address so that it is easily readable by emergency response personnel. NOW THEREFORE be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of'Greencastle as follows: Once a property address has been assigned to a specific structure, it shall be the responsibility of the property owner or resident to post the primary address number on the structure, on a mailbox post, or on a sign facing the street as specified below: 1. For structures within 100 feet of the main public roadway, the primary address number shall be placed on the structure near a main entry door e wairt- cutr}.door. 2. If a mailbox is located at the main access way of the structure (driveway), the numbers and lettering shall be located on both sides of the mailbox or mailbox post. 3. In all other situations, the primary address number shall be located on a post, sign, or other ® marker that is approved by the Greencastle City Police and placed near the intersection ofthe main vehicle access way to the structure and main public road way. The lettering shall be no more than six inches (6 ") tall by three feet (3') wide. 4. Numbers shall: a. Be visible from both directions of the main public road way. b. Equal or exceed three inches (3 ") in vertical height, and the color of the letters shall contrast with the background in order to be readable. c. Be kept free of debris or foliage. 5. All address numbers and letters shall be placed in a visible location on all residential, commercial, industrial, and public structures no later than June 1, 2002. a. Violators of this Ordinance shall be warned in writing by the Greencastle City Police. If, after thirty (30) days of notification in writing by the Greencastle City Police, the property owner remains in noncompliance with this Ordinance, the Greencastle City Police may fine the property owner Ten Dollars ($10.00) per day until the property owner is in compliance.
