SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance (JAG) grant is federal funding through the U.S. Department of Justice and is administered by the Idaho State Police. This funding is made
available to Idaho law enforcement agencies to improve their services and programs. The McCall Police Department (MPD) has received Byrne JAG funds in the past for technology improvements
and equipment. The MPD wishes to apply for 2015 Byrne JAG funds for funding to provide additional training opportunities to MPD staff, to include training that will assist officers
to provide a better response to large event situations such as the Independence Day holiday. In addition, the project will include general training to improve communication skills such
as public speaking, using power point and other software for presentations; alcohol education, domestic violence, sexual assault, and victim/witness programs: and professionalism and
ethics. Specific training opportunities relevant to large event response will be made available as part of the grant project to area agencies to include Valley County Sheriff, Idaho
State Police and others to enhance the local response to such events.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve submission of a 2015 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grant and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.
