19ayor Raison Mayor Reiman asked the Councilmembers to simply report
"Progress" or keep their reports brief with the regard to the
circumstances here today. He reported there were about
twenty thousand homes in the northern part of Middlesex
County that lost power about three (3) hours ago of which
part of the problem was a mechanical failure at the PSE &G
Sewaren Generating Station and areas of Sayreville, Perth
Amboy, Rahway and parts of Woodbridge Township also lost
power. He said PSE &G has assured us that they expect to
have the problem solved by this evening and have it up and
running shortly thereafter. He went on to say there are close
to one thousand homes in Carteret and one hundred
thousand homes in Middlesex County that still do not have
power from Hurricane Sandy and this is being worked on daily.
He said we had significant damage in our Waterfront Park, at
the Library /Community Center as well as damage to the
Recreation Building and the DPW, so there is quite a bit of
emergency work that needs to be done. In addition there is
public and private damage in Carteret which exceeds sixteen
million dollars and this is part of a twenty billion dollar
estimate state wide.
