SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Parks Department has funding in the amount of $34,000 for FY17 for the purchase of a used/new 12” Brush Chipper to be shared between, Parks, Golf, and Public Works. Attached are
three options based on availability, parts & service, warranty, and price. Staff will weigh these options over the next two weeks following a demo of the Morbark chipper. Considerations
will be whether or not the used Vermeer will still be available on October 01, what the service and maintenance options are for the Morbark, and what warranty packages will look like
for both units.
Staff would like to purchase this piece of equipment as after October 01 as possible to ensure availability and to avoid additional rental expenses for work that needs to be done this
fall. Attached are the specs for each chipper.
Cost considerations are as follows:
Used Vermeer: $35,350 if it is still available on October 01
New Vermeer: $40,216
New Morbark: $35,061 (Need to research service and maintenance constraints.)
Used Duratech: $26,467.20 (Machine is too large for our needs and spaces – closest service center is in Spokane.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the purchase of either a used or new brush chipper through either Vermeer Rocky Mountain in Boise or GoodFellow Crushers in Ogden Utah, and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary
documents.
