SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Tree City USA program provides direction, assistance and national recognition for communities across the country. It’s the framework for a healthy, sustainable urban forestry program
in our community.
For fifteen years the City of McCall has been re-certified as a Tree City USA through the National Arbor Day Foundation. For ten of those fifteen years we have also been awarded a growth
award. The Tree City USA Growth Award is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to recognize higher levels of tree care by participating Tree City USA communities. The Growth Award highlights
innovative programs and projects as well as increased commitment of resources for urban forestry. It also provides an opportunity to share new ideas and successes across the country.
Given the success of the City’s on-going efforts to manage our community forest and to educate the public on forest values and assets; the Parks Department and the Tree Committee would
like to apply for re-certification for 2016 as a Tree City USA and go for our eleventh growth award.
Attached is the 2016 Tree City USA Signature Form, 2016 Tree City USA Growth Award Signature Form, and the 2016 Tree City USA Application.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the application for re-certification as a Tree City USA Community and for the Tree City USA Growth Award, and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.
