SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The City of McCall Public Art Advisory Committee and the Rotary Park Artwork Selection Committee have recommended that artist Susan Bond be commissioned to design and fabricate unique
handrails for three staircases within Rotary Park.
In keeping with the City of McCall Public Art Policies adopted by City Council June 29, 2012, a five member volunteer artwork selection committee reviewed qualifications from four (4)
Pacific Northwest artist/fabricators and chose two (2) finalist artists to invite to submit specific proposals for artistic handrails within Rotary Park. These specific design proposals
were then used to gain community input into final artwork selection via a website survey, Rotary Club presentation, and Library display. Although 435 public input responses were received,
no clear design was favored with only an indicated preference difference of 2/10 of one percent between the two final designs. Therefore, design, fabrication quality, long-term durability,
and installation feasibility of each proposal was considered, resulting in the artwork selection committee (4 in support, 1 against) and the City of McCall Public Art Advisory Committee
(4 in support, 1 against) recommendation to City Council of Susan Bond for commission of artistic handrails for Rotary Park.
The attached Artwork Commission Agreement has been reviewed by the City Attorney.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the Artwork Commission Agreement with Susan Bond and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.
