CANCELLING AND WAIVING FEES FOR Ii IPROVENIENTS
TO RESIDENTIAL OWNER- OCCUPIED PROPERTIES
DUE TO HURRICANE SANDY
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret, along with many other New Jersey communities,
experienced a storm of unprecedented fury when Hurricane Sandy struck New Jersey on
October 29, 2012; and
WHEREAS, many property owners in the Borough of Carteret suffered serious damage
to their homes and/ or properties as a result of Hurricane Sandy; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret are cognizant and
supportive of the will and desire of said property owners to undertake repairs; and
WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey has indicated that, pursuant to N.J.A.C. 5:23 -
4.19(b)5, the State of New Jersey will waive the State permit surcharge fees for
construction permits if the municipality waives the local fees; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret desire to waive the
municipal fees for construction permits issued to repair damage sustained as a result of
Hurricane Sandy for all owner- occupied residences consisting of up to four units; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Council of the Borough
of Carteret that all municipal construction permit fees for construction repair work made
necessary because of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy be and are hereby waived for
any such construction pennit applications received by the Borough of Carteret Building
Department on or before January 31, 2012; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Chief
Financial Officer, Construction Official and Code Enforcement Officer and New Jersey
Division of Codes and Standards.
