SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Sgt. Kelly Copperi Valley County Sheriff's Office sent in the following request on July 29, 2017:
The Communications Center is applying for a grant through the state funded Idaho Public Safety Communications Commission (ISPCC), formerly known as the Idaho Emergency Communications
Commission. This grant is funded through the .25 cents on our phone bills that Valley County and many other counties participate in.
We did not request funds last year because we knew we were going to be at the end of life on our telephone system this year. Valley County funded the initial cost of this system in
2006 on our own, this year we are requesting grant money for the upgrade. The upgrade to make our system Next Generation 911 compliant and update all of the hardware, software and
networking is approximately $243,000.00. It is a much needed upgrade, as the FCC mandates all 911 PSAP's to be compliant with NG911.
As part of the grant writing process, I must receive letters of support from all of the agencies that we dispatch for and the city mayors. I am asking that you write a letter of support
on your agency letterhead, as that is a requirement, and return it to me no later than June 30, 2017. I have attached a sample letter for you. We have been 100% successful in receiving
this grant money every time we apply. Please understand that we are not asking your agency for money or an increase in dispatch expense due to this project.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve Valley County Sheriff’s request for a 2018 911 Communications Grant Letter of Support and authorize the Mayor to sign the letter.
