SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The “Tourism” LOT successfully passed a ballot in 2011 and went into effect in January of 2012. The existing LOT funds nearly $450,000 per year in services and projects in support of
our community/City. Upon establishment in 2011, this LOT ordinance called for a 7-year tax, which is scheduled for expiration on 1 January of 2019. The intent of this agenda bill is
to have an introductory discussion with the Council about this tax to determine the following:
Interest/direction of the Council to pursue conversations with the community in pursuit of continuation for this tax.
Methods for engaging the community on this tax to obtain initial feedback on the use and potential request to continue this tax.
Specific stakeholder groups who should be engaged directly for feedback, which may include but are certainly not limited to the LOT Commission, those eligible for funding under the existing
ordinance, and entities being tax under this ordinance (hotels, short term rentals etc).
A timeline for discussions as related to a ballot measure, if desired by the Council.
Attached is a copy of the LOT Ordinance 877 established in 2011.
