SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and
is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year.
The theme for the 47th anniversary of Earth Day is Environmental and Climate Literacy. Environmental and climate literacy is the engine not only for creating green voters and advancing
environmental and climate laws and policies but also for accelerating green technologies and jobs.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Proclaim April 22, 2017 as Earth Day in the City of McCall and authorize the Mayor to sign the proclamation.
